About this file
This document package includes specifications for a mobile sterile processing department (SPD) to be deployed at Misawa Air Base in Japan as part of a hospital modernization project. The specifications call for a fully-functional, transportable SPD unit with single-point connections for utilities. Required equipment includes sinks, pass-through washers, a sonic cleaner, prep and pack tables, pass-through sterilizers, a low-temperature sterilizer, steam generators, and a critical water system. Construction must meet fire, wind, and seismic standards. The unit must maintain air quality per ASHRAE 170 and include dedicated HVAC systems for decontamination and sterilization areas. The contractor must provide clinical and technical support during deployment as well as equipment maintenance.

Revision 11 1-16-2020
Special Notes: 1. Prior to deployment, STERIS will perform a site visit and/or teleconference to review mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) requirements with all parties involved to ensure a successful project.
2. Customer is responsible for all licenses, permits and any government approvals. Time spent to meet these requirements should be built into your master project schedule.
3. Customer is responsible to make all utility connections.
4. Power must be with 50’ of the front/nose of the unit, readily available upon unit arrival and all utilities must be stubbed out to the deployment location.
5. In the event power cannot be provided due to an emergency, STERIS will discuss alternative power options with generator support on a case by case basis.
6. STERIS can provide steps for entrance and exit, however, it is strongly recommended that the facility provides a deck or connecting corridor to transport instruments into and out of the unit. IMPORTANT – any connecting structure must be constructed AFTER the Mobile SPD arrives on site.
7. It is recommended that anchor tie downs are not placed until the Mobile SPD arrives. Although STERIS does not penetrate the ground, STERIS Installation Specialists will be on site and can provide guidance regarding tie down locations.

Support Pad Recommendations
1) Minimum Support Pad Requirements:
A minimum support pad measuring 11’W x 47’L is recommended. The cross hatching shown on the following pages depicts the recommended support pad.
2) Support Pad Depth:
Recommendations for the width and length of the pad are given on the following pages. Based upon the weight distribution of the Mobile SPD and existing site conditions, the depth should be determined by a contractor.
3) Support Pad Levelness:
In order to ensure proper operation of the system, the support pad(s) must be level and the deviation shall not exceed ¼” in 10’.
4) Recommended Service Pad:
A full service pad measuring 25’W x 62’L is recommended. This will allow full service access to the Mobile SPD. The recommended service pad is illustrated on the following pages.
5) Vehicle Access:
A firm, level surface is recommended around the Mobile SPD in order to provide access to the site, access to the Mobile SPD and access to service the unit.
NOTE: When applicable, the Customer is responsible for providing a pad. If a pad is needed, the Customer is also responsible for performing calculations based on unit weight to determine the depth of the pad.

Sample Deck, Ramp and Connecting Corridor Photos
NOTE: The facility is responsible for engineering and constructing ramps, decks and connecting corridors that will connect to the unit.
Construction of these structures can begin prior to unit arrival, however, these structures are not to be completed until after the unit is on site.
During the design phase, please pay special attention to the door locations to ensure there is enough clearance for the SPD doors to align with the connecting structure.
NOTE: When designing a connecting corridor, the facility is responsible for constructing an extension over the unit and sealing the structure to ensure that water/snow does not penetrate this connecting area.

Revision 11 1-16-2020
Proper Site Preparation Procedure
NOTE: Deck elevations are required to be sent to STERIS for approval prior to unit arrival. Customer should not build the deck until after the unit arrives on site.
The Mobile SPD has the capability to raise and lower to meet various height challenges, however, the connecting structure must be built after unit arrival as there are limitations to the maximum height of the unit.
The connecting corridor should be constructed AFTER the Mobile SPD arrives on site as there must be enough room to expand the unit and ensure an exact alignment to the connecting structure. The structure must be built to the unit (STERIS will not manipulate the unit to align with a pre-existing structure).
