About this file
This document is a technical specification section (Section 03300) for concrete work, following guidelines from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) standards including ACI 318 and ACI 301. The specification provides comprehensive requirements for concrete materials, mixing, placement, testing, and quality control for construction projects. It details the contractor's responsibilities for furnishing labor, materials, and equipment to complete plain and reinforced concrete work, with precise instructions on concrete composition, mix design, reinforcement, and testing protocols.
The specification mandates specific material standards, including Type I Portland cement conforming to ASTM-C150, aggregates meeting ASTM-C33, and required admixtures free of chlorides. The concrete must achieve a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 3,750 psi, with specific requirements for slump, air content, and workability. The document outlines rigorous testing procedures, requiring an independent testing laboratory to perform material tests, prepare concrete cylinders, and conduct comprehensive evaluations during construction, with test results to be submitted to the contractor, engineer, and owner. The specification also provides detailed guidelines for concrete placement under various weather conditions, surface preparation, curing, and quality control measures.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 MIXING AND PLACING CONCRETE
A. Preparation of Equipment and Place of Deposit:
1. Before concrete is placed, all equipment for mixing and transporting the concrete shall be clean, all debris and ice shall be removed from the spaces to be occupied by the concrete, and the reinforcement shall be thoroughly clean of ice or other deleterious coatings.
