About this file
This document is a Bulk Asbestos Analysis Report prepared by MACS Lab, Inc. for Consolidated Safety Services at NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California. The report details an asbestos survey conducted on July 18, 2006, by Diana Harrington, an industrial hygienist, to document the presence/absence of asbestos in roofing materials for Building N254 that will be impacted by a roof replacement project.
Laboratory analysis of seven bulk asbestos samples revealed that the roofing sheet mastic from the upper roof is considered an asbestos-containing material by NASA ARC definition, with 2% chrysotile detected. Most other samples contained various percentages of fiberglass, synthetic materials, and mineral wool, but were not considered asbestos-containing. The report recommends including these findings in the construction plans' hazardous materials section and following NASA's Asbestos Management Plan and applicable federal regulations for handling, disturbance, removal, storage, and disposal of asbestos-containing materials.
