SECTION 12 22 00

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Work included in this Section:

1. Curtains, track, and related accessories

1.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. Performance Requirements

1. Provide draperies that conform to the following requirements of regulatory agencies and the quality control of the manufacturer.

B. Fire Performance Characteristics

1. Provide curtains that conform with NFPA 701 (Fire Tests for Flame and Resistant Textiles and Films).

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data – submit the following.

1. Manufacturer’s printed product data for each type of drapery specified.

2. Third-party test data for curtain material flame resistance.

B. Fabric Samples – submit the following.

1. Swatch cards of fabric (memo) samples illustrating fabric color and weave.

C. Track Samples – submit the following.

1. Verification samples of curtain track, 6 inch (152.4mm) long, in full size with carriers, splice plates, and end caps.

2. Verification sample of curtain track bracket.

1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Deliver and store packaged products in original containers with seals unbroken and labels intact until time of use.

B. Inspect materials at delivery to assure that specified products have been received.

C. Store delivered products inside in a clean, safe, and dry environment.

A. Manufacturer’s standard warranty against material and manufacturing defects for a period of 1 year from the date of the installation.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Curtain fabric must be tested by qualified third-party to establish compliance with NFPA 701 - Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Films.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1 CURTAIN TRACK

A. Description: Wall-mounted track with matching splices; carriers for hand traverse operations.

B. Configuration: Two track system with curtain panel overlaps of 24 inches.

C. Single Source Requirement: Curtain tracks, carriers and track related items shall be from a single supplier.

D. Basis of Design Manufacturer: Blackout Curtains; 676 Mendelssohn Ave N;

Golden Valley, MN 55427; (www.blackoutcurtains.com); phone 866-252-2568.

1. Track Material: Minimum 29/32” X 11/16” x .050 extruded 6063-T-5, anodized aluminum.

a. Fabricate tracks with least amount of joints as possible.

b. Provide radius corners and offsets at columns.

2. Carrier: Carrier body and wheels of Celcon® acetal copolymer (POM), eye and hook of 0.093” bright wire with nickel plating

3. Accessories: Provide complete with end-caps, knockouts, splice sleeves, sleeve connectors, brackets, and hardware.

E. Provide all components for a complete, functional installation.

F. Substitutions:

1. Certificates: Submit certificates certifying substitute manufacturer attesting to adherence to specification requirements.

2. Samples: Provide samples of typical product sections and finish samples in manufacturer's standard sizes.

3. Product Data: Provide manufacturer’s product data for each item.

2.2 CURTAINS

A. Fabric

1. Basis of Design Manufacturer: Blackout Curtains; 676 Mendelssohn Ave N;

Golden Valley, MN 55427; (www.blackoutcurtains.com); phone 866-252-2568.

a. Fabric: Textron, 16 oz, 100% polyester

b. Color: Black/Black

B. Single Source Requirement: Provide all curtains from a single source and dye lot.

C. Configuration:

1. Two track system, alternate curtain panels between tracks and overlap 24 inches.

2. Flat, plus additional 15% width for fullness.

D. Construction:

1. Top of curtain to be as close to track as practical. Top must have double fold with metal grommet holes.

2. Provide flat valance fastened to track with continuous hook and loop (Velcro) fastener.

3. Bottom of draperies must be at elevation shown on the drawings.

4. Draperies to have minimum of 115% fullness, width to be determined by length of track to ensure proper enclosure.

5. Form top and bottom hems by a double fold securely sewn with edge seams overlapped lock stitched.

6. Provide hook and carrier for each curtain grommet.

7. Each curtain panel must have identification label with the following information:

a. Manufacturer name

b. Date of manufacture

c. Fabric name and color

d. Panel size

e. Cleaning instructions and special requirements

f. Affirm compliance with NFPA 701 and its level of performance

8. Fabric seams: Pattern matched and sewn with vertical seams.

a. Vertical Seams: 1/2 inch wide, double turned and double lock stitched.

E. Substitutions:

1. Certificates: Submit certificates certifying substitute manufacturer attesting to adherence to specification requirements.

2. Test Data: Provide third-party test data for smoke and flame spread per NFPA 701.

3. Samples: Provide samples of typical product sections and finish samples in manufacturer's standard sizes.

4. Product Data: Provide manufacturer’s product data for each item.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.1 PREPARATION

A. Coordinate details with other work supporting, adjoining, or otherwise contacting items as

required to insure proper installation.

B. Verify that surfaces and backing are installed by the general contractor and are ready to receive work.

1. Exposed finishes have been applied, and setting conditions are dry, clean, and otherwise proper for installation.

3.2 EXAMINATION

A. Examine construction to support, adjoin, or otherwise contact and field verify that:

1. Dimensions are correct.

2. Backing is available and installed where required.

B. Do not install items until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install track in accordance with approved manufacturer recommendations and reviewed Shop Drawings.

B. Provide hidden fire treated resistant wood blocking in wall at each curtain support.

C. Drill and tap mounting surfaces for mounting hardware as required.

D. Install track in one piece when less than with fewest splices as possible.

E. Butt Joints – Not Permitted, provide with splice joint.

F. Carriers / Slides

1. Furnish one carrier per every pin hook or snap of drapery.

G. End Caps

H. Furnish tag designating proper size drapery at return of each curtain.

3.4 CLEANING

A. At completion of installation, remove any debris and clean surfaces in accordance with manufacturer’s clean-up and maintenance instructions.

B. Eliminate wrinkles in curtains.
