About this file
This document is a federal contract clause template for extending service contracts.
The clause, titled "Option to Extend Services" (FAR 52.217-8, November 1999), establishes the government's right to require continued performance of contracted services under the same terms and rates specified in the original contract. Rate adjustments are permitted only when the Secretary of Labor revises prevailing labor rates. The option may be exercised multiple times, though the cumulative extension period cannot exceed 6 months total. The Contracting Officer must exercise this option through written notice to the contractor within 10 days of deciding to extend services. This is a template clause prescribed for use in federal solicitations under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 17.208(f). The document references Request for Quote No. 6913G626Q300034 but provides no additional procurement-specific details regarding services, timelines, pricing, or the contracting agency.
