About this file

This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document for cleaning, assessing, repairing, and preserving Fuel Receiving Tank Group-6 on the USS HOWARD (DDG-83). The work involves a fuel tank with 22,987 gallon capacity, requiring dewatering of 40,700 gallons across the tank group system.

The TGI outlines specific maintenance procedures including surface preparation, preservation coating, structural integrity assessment, and repair requirements. Key tasks include cleaning to Level III cleanliness standards, near-white blast cleaning of surfaces, applying yellow coating to specified areas, and repairing/replacing deteriorated components. The work period is scheduled from April 7, 2025 through July 14, 2025, to be performed at Yokosuka Naval Base. Special requirements include fabrication of a non-flammable closure due to fire zone boundary work. SRF-JRMC will provide support services including crane operations, utilities, safety inspections, and quality assurance. The document specifies technical requirements for preservation coating, welding repairs, and testing procedures, with detailed specifications for manhole covers and air vent connections.
