About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document detailing work requirements for cleaning, assessing, inspecting, repairing, and preserving Fuel Service Tank (4-300-1-F) on the USS HOWARD (DDG-83). The work involves a 17,838-gallon fuel tank and associated structural components including 1,650 SF of structural plating, four doubler plates, second platform plating, longitudinal bulkhead, and vertical stiffeners. The contractor must conduct ultrasonic thickness measurements, magnetic particle inspections, and visual assessments of the tank's preservation coating, structural integrity, and components.
The work period is scheduled from April 7, 2025 to July 14, 2025. Specific requirements include commercial blast cleaning, installation of manhole covers, repair of deteriorated welds and plates, and application of new protective coatings. The document includes detailed material specifications and Government Furnished Material (GFM) requirements. Special requirements note this work affects a fire zone boundary requiring fabrication of a non-flammable closure. The work must maintain cleanliness levels II and III for piping systems/equipment. The document also includes technical drawings and photographs showing locations of doubler plates and vertical stiffeners to be repaired or replaced.
