About this file

This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document for cleaning, assessment, repair and preservation work on fuel tanks aboard the USS HOWARD (DDG-83). The work focuses on Fuel Receiving Tank Group-2 (4-78-2-F) with 11,805 gallon capacity and Fuel Tank Group-2 (5-78-2-F) with 16,152 gallon capacity.

The work includes dewatering tanks, commercial blast cleaning, visual inspections for structural integrity and coating condition, welding repairs, installation of zinc anodes and studs, and application of new preservation coatings. Special requirements include Level III cleanliness standards and hot work safety protocols for magazine spaces. The contractor work period is scheduled from April 7, 2025 through July 14, 2025. The document specifies detailed material requirements including zinc anodes, welding studs, washers, and nuts for installation. Technical services to be provided by SRF-JRMC include crane operations, utilities, safety inspections, and quality assurance. This TGI reflects a change to correct a referenced page number and is part of a larger ship repair availability package for USS HOWARD at Yokosuka Naval Base.
