About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, assessing, repairing, and preserving Fuel Tank Group-2 aboard the USS HOWARD (DDG-83). The work involves multiple fuel tanks with a total capacity of 70,684 gallons, requiring 50,000 gallons of water for dewatering operations.
The scope includes commercial blast cleaning, structural integrity assessment, preservation coating inspection, installation of zinc anodes (91 ZEP type and 33 ZHC-23 type), and repair/replacement of deteriorated components. Specific tasks include weld repairs totaling one linear foot, base metal weld buildup of 31 square inches, and installation of new manhole cover plates. The work must maintain Level III cleanliness standards and requires fabrication of non-flammable closures for fire zone boundaries. The contractor work period is scheduled from April 7, 2025 through July 14, 2025. SRF-JRMC will provide government furnished materials and support services including crane operations, utilities, safety inspections, and quality assurance oversight.
