About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, assessing, inspecting, repairing, and preserving Fuel Tank Group-1 (5-126-1-F) on the USS HOWARD (DDG-83). The work involves a 19,625-gallon fuel tank and related components including 94 zinc anodes (ZEP type), 31 zinc anodes (ZHC-23 type), manhole covers, bolting rings, and 5,280 SF of interior surface area.
The work requires dewatering tanks, conducting structural assessments, commercial blast cleaning, repairing deteriorated welds and plates, installing new zinc anodes, and preserving surfaces. Special requirements include Level III cleanliness for piping systems and fabrication of non-flammable closures for fire zone boundaries. The work is to be performed between April 7, 2025 and July 14, 2025 at SRF-JRMC facilities. The TGI provides detailed material requirements including zinc anodes, securing studs, washers, and nuts. Government-furnished services include crane operations, utilities, safety inspections, and quality assurance oversight. The work is part of a larger ship repair availability being contracted through NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Yokosuka.
