About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) for the VA Medical Center project to Modernize Short Stay at the Ann Arbor VAMC. The RFI, numbered 005 and dated 02/24/2025, was submitted by Asim Lodhi of RB Construction seeking clarification on two specific technical details: (1) mounting specifications for a patient lift system through a slotted door frame, and (2) the absence of specification section 13 05 41 in the project manual. The government responded on 3-5-25, addressing the questions by explaining the door frame design uses AD Systems Barrier Free technology with a castellated frame to permit lift motor and track passage, and confirming that the 13 05 41 specification does not apply since the project is not in a seismic zone.
The project (Solicitation No. 36C25025B0008) involves renovation of patient rooms, specialty procedure rooms, staff areas, storage rooms, and locker rooms at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. The renovation scope includes upgrading physical security systems, installing a new Air Handler Unit, air terminal unit boxes, ductwork, diffusers, and control valves, with comprehensive testing and balancing of HVAC, data, and water systems. The RFI response was needed by 03/10/2025, indicating an active procurement process for this facility modernization project.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI)
Solicitation No. 36C25025B0008
TO: Contract Specialist: Christina Shockey Email: Christina.Shockey@va.gov
RFI NO.
DATE: 02/24/2025 REFERENCE: A601
REPLY NEEDED BY: 03/10/2025
INFORMATION NEEDED:
1. H.M. frame type #4 appears to show a slotted frame to allow access of the patient lift system through the door itself. Are additional details available for how the track is to be mounted through this pass through of the frame? If the track is to be slightly dropped to allow access of the patient lift through the door, the concern becomes height of the patient lift itself.
2. Spec section 13 05 41 appears to be missing from the project manual. This spec 13 05 41 is referenced throughout the rest of the spec manual.

1. Basis of Design of the door frame, and sliding door systems is AD Systems Barrier Free. The frame is castellated to permit passage of the lift motor and track above the door. Refer to H.M. Frame type elevations on A601, which shows generally how this is configured.
2. Project is not in a Seismic Zone so 13 05 41 specification does not apply.
