Grant Road Improvement Project – Corridor
City of Tucson, Tucson, Arizona
2007–Present
Brief description of project, your role, and record of performance
The Grant Road Corridor Improvement Project is the cornerstone of the 20-year RTA plan approved by City of Tucson voters in 2006 and is one of the biggest and most visible undertaking in the RTA plan. The Grant Road corridor projects consists of a 5-mile reach of a major east–west arterial roadway.
Tierra’s involvement began with an investigation of the proposed alignment developed by the project’s principal design consultant. Our team determined potential problems associated with the eventual relocation of homes and businesses along the route and helped the City of Tucson take a proactive approach to address these impacts. Tierra began consultation with potentially affected residents to educate them on the project’s impact and their rights concerning the acquisition and relocation process to ensure the transition happens fairly, equitably, and smoothly. Tierra participated in the technical design team as support to the City of Tucson Real Estate Division to mitigate impacts to businesses and residential properties. The objective was to minimize acquisition and relocation expenditures while maintaining the health and safety needs to develop the arterial collector transportation corridor. Tierra has continued to provide design support throughout the entire reach of the corridor project.
Tierra provided a Relocation Plan for the Grant Road Early Intersection Project (EIP), Grant Road Phase II, and Grant Road Phases III and IV and interviewed potentially affected property owners to begin the process of locating a suitable replacement property within the market. Tierra also completed all acquisition and relocation activities, including right of way clearance for the Grant Road EIP, Grant Road Phase II, and Grant Road Phases III and IV.
Ms. Francis is acting as the assistant director, formerly the division director, and project manager overseeing all the right of way acquisition and relocation activities. Tasks include general oversight of Tierra right of way professionals, project management, and coordination with client team members to resolve issues. Ms. Francis directly participated with the design team, public meetings, and outreach, and developed an acquisition/relocation 101 program delivered to the public throughout design of the project.
