About this file
This document is an Installation Facilities Standards (IFS) for Space Launch Delta 45's Ascension Auxiliary Airfield, providing detailed construction and equipment specifications for facility development in an extremely corrosive maritime environment. The standards mandate specific requirements for structures, including using bare slip-face beige blocks, concrete precast fence posts, factory-coated aluminum roofing from Interlock lifetime systems, and Schlage brand locks. For HVAC systems, only Trane equipment is permitted, with units requiring a specialized aluminum-impregnated polyurethane coating rated for 10,000-hour salt spray protection. Electrical specifications call for Square D products and Schedule 80 PVC for all underground and above-ground installations. The document emphasizes using high-grade materials to mitigate corrosion challenges, noting the Ascension location's unique logistical constraints, such as limited shipping access and maintenance supply chain difficulties.

Space Launch Delta 45 (Ascension Auxiliary Airfield) Installation Facilities Standards (IFS)
G02 SLD45 IFS Ascension Auxiliary Airfield Standards
Comply with Air Force Corporate Standards for Overview:
http://afcfs.wbdg.org/index.html
Summary of Sections in this Supplementary Document:
G02.0. General Overview G02.1. Structures G02.2. Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) G02.3. Electrical G02.4. Reserved G02.5. Coordination & Approvals
G02.0. General Overview
1. Note: This Supplementary Document is provided as a supplement to the SLD45 IFS. If there are any discrepancies between this Supplementary Document and the requirements of the IFS, the IFS will govern.
2. This Supplementary Document supersedes all previous versions of Patrick AFB/Cape Canaveral AFS, or Patrick SFB/Cape Canaveral SFS Standards and 45th Space Wing Facilities Excellence plan/guide.
3. This is not intended to be all encompassing guidance. These standards also address corrosion concerns as outlined in UFC 01-200-01 with PSFB/CCSFS being rated the highest corrosive environment in DoD. The highest-grade material is to be used or exceeded. These create additional cost that can become very high. To alleviate these high costs, the following standards keep cost low with simple changes. These changes also will extend lifespan on all these systems.
The Standards listed in this supplement are in addition to requirements set forth in the following Unified Facilities Criteria; design must follow the latest:
a. UFC 1-200-01 DoD Building Code
b. UFC 1-200-02 High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirements
c. UFC 3-120-01 Design, Sign Standards.
4. The SLD45 IFS and supplements G.03 through G.17 will be the main standards to follow for Ascension AAF except as outlined in this G.02 IFS supplement.
5. Manufacturers (Mfr.) listed in this IFS are provided only to establish a level of quality for use when designers write the salient characteristics of the brand-name item in project specifications following Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
6. Due to the austere location of Ascension in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, it is imperative to only use the manufactures outlined in this supplement due to shipping cost to this location.
Maintenance crews cannot upkeep multiple brand name parts, since there is no access to a rapid supply chain at all.

G02.1. Structures
1. For Facility construction, use bare slip-face block with integral color factory beige. Do not paint block.
a.
2. Fence post must be concrete precast or composite. Do not use any form or metal or galvanized.
a. Cementex CCP4X4X8CP 4 x4 ince x 8 foot concrete post by cement precast products.
3. For roofing, use only factory coated aluminum roofing.
a. Interlock lifetime roofing systems.
4. Lock systems must use “Schlage” brand
5. Any exposed steel system must be coated with inorganic zinc.
6. Reserved
G02.2. Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning systems
1. See SLD45 IFS appendix G10 for further details. Trane systems must only be used.
2. The unit must be equipped with a harsh environment protection through a factory-applied coating.
This coating, consisting of aluminum-impregnated polyurethane and rated for a 10,000-hour salt spray per ASTM B117, will cover all exposed areas of the unit, including all of the coils, (evaporator, condenser, hot gas re-heat, and liquid sub-cooling), compressors, interior and exterior panels, piping, and gas heaters. Coating must be applied from the point of outdoor air intake up to 12 inches past the coils to ensure maximum corrosive protection at vulnerable areas exposed to corrosive air.
3. All other exposed steel parts must be coated with inorganic zinc.
G02.3. Electrical.
1. Use Square D products. Refer to SLD45 IFS G14 for further directives.
2. Only use Schedule 80 PVC for underground and above ground.
G02.4. Reserved.
G02.5. Coordination & Approval
APPROVED:
Chief, Engineering Flight, 45 CES/CEN; 321-494-2129 SLD45 Building Official/ AHJ
