About this file
This is a technical specification (Section 23 81 26) for split-system air conditioners as part of a building rehabilitation project at Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. The specification details requirements for split-system heat pump units consisting of separate evaporator-fan and compressor-condenser components rated at 5 tons or less.
The document outlines detailed technical requirements including: indoor units with multi-position air handlers featuring factory assembled and tested components, 22-gauge galvanized steel cabinets, R4.2 fiberglass-free insulation, and copper tube refrigerant coils; outdoor units with scroll compressors using R-454B or R-32 refrigerant and capable of operation down to -13°F with low ambient kit; minimum SEER rating of 15.0; and specific warranty requirements (7 years for compressor, 5 years for parts, 1 year for labor). The units must meet various ASHRAE standards including ASHRAE 15, 62.1, and 90.1, and electrical components must be UL listed. Installation requirements specify level mounting, proper connections for refrigerant lines and ductwork, and comprehensive testing procedures including leak testing and operational verification.
