About this file
This document is a product manual for the SHERLOCK™ Infrared Refrigerant Gas Sensor manufactured by Genesis International, Inc., along with supplementary materials including the SHERLOCK Horn/Strobe Combination alarm device and related electrical wiring diagrams and system installation documentation.
The SHERLOCK sensor is a non-dispersive infrared (IR) refrigerant gas detection device designed to detect specific refrigerant gases in enclosed spaces and alert monitoring systems to potential leaks. The sensor is available in two models depending on monitoring environment—Machine Room for applications above freezing and Cold Room for low-temperature refrigerated applications. Three housing options are provided: NEMA 3R Aluminum with black powder coat, water-tight ABS fiberglass for washdown protection, and Stainless Steel NEMA 3R for special applications. The sensor operates at 12 VDC with a power input of 0.4A and outputs current-driven signals of 4-20 mA or custom outputs (0-5V DC or 1-5V DC) with an external 250-ohm resistor. The effective range is 15-1500 PPM (control dependent) for the Sherlock/Wizard models and 0-1032 PPM for stand-alone configurations. Key specifications include sensitivity of 1 ppm at 25°C, resolution of 1 ppm, accuracy of 5 ppm plus 2% over full scale, response time under 30 seconds, and a life expectancy of 5-7 years in normal environments. Calibration is required every six months. The sensor is suitable for HVAC chiller rooms, wineries, refrigeration mechanical rooms, bakeries, food processing plants, and refrigerated storage areas. Typical applications include integration with multi-point refrigerant leak monitoring systems (SHERLOCK), walk-in cooler monitors (Wizard), and evaporator control systems. The manual provides detailed mounting instructions, wiring diagrams for various Sherlock and Wizard configurations, calibration procedures, troubleshooting guidance, and maintenance schedules. Photographs and floor plans document installation examples in commercial refrigeration facilities.
