About this file

This is a Pre-Bid Requests for Information (RFI) Addendum document for the Whitehall District Schools 2025 Bond project located at 541 E. Slocum Street in Whitehall, Michigan. The document consolidates five pre-bid RFIs submitted by Clark Construction Company between October 28 and October 30, 2026, addressing various specification and design clarifications needed prior to bidding. The RFIs cover mechanical product acceptable manufacturers (specifically requesting Grundfos approval), project specification formatting inconsistencies, LEED and sustainability requirements impact on budgeting, energy code clarifications regarding Michigan Energy Code 2021 and ASHRAE 90.1-2019 standards, and geofoam material specifications for foundation work. Most RFIs were resolved between October 29 and November 3, 2026, with assignments distributed to Pure Architects team members and responses due by November 4-6, 2026. The project scope encompasses multiple buildings including Whitehall Middle School and encompasses preconstruction phases.

The RFI resolutions indicate that Grundfos is approved as an acceptable mechanical manufacturer pending clarification in a forthcoming addendum, specification formatting issues will be corrected in the next addendum, and LEED/sustainability requirements deemed not required were removed from project specifications. Energy code verification requirements were confirmed for new fenestration, walls, doors, and MEP systems, with updates to be made to drawing G101. The geofoam specification was clarified to require expanded polystyrene (EPS) conforming to EPS46 physical property requirements per ASTM D6817, replacing the previously specified extruded polystyrene requirements that could not be met by available products. No pricing information, set-asides, or funding sources are detailed in this addendum document.

QUESTION Wyatt Foerch on 10/28/2026 10:37 AM

See email chain attached.

A request has been made to add Grundfos to the list of acceptable manufacturers for certain mechanical products.

The attached email chain includes the full request along with engineer approval.

Submission is for record.

ANSWER Tom Brennan on 11/3/2026 10:05 AM

Per email response from Millies Engineering Group on 10/27/26, Grundfos is an acceptable manufacturer for certain mechanical equipment. This will be clarified further in a forthcoming addendum.

QUESTION Wyatt Foerch on 10/28/2026 12:40 PM

Please refer to attachments for examples.

Throughout the specifications, there are some formatting issues. Quite a few items are in a different text color or have unnecessary bolding and/or parentheses. Please re-evaluate the specs and finish them so the formatting maintains consistency and clarity.

We are requesting this by Tuesday, November 3rd.

COMMENT Nate Gilman on 10/29/2026 08:17 AM

This will be addressed in the next addendum

QUESTION Wyatt Foerch on 10/30/2026 11:55 AM

Regarding LEED and sustainability requirements outlined in the specifications, many of the items would affect the bids/budget and may not have been discussed or accounted for. Please determine what items may pose a burden to the bids and were not discussed with WDS. Are and of these items necessary or can they be removed?

Please advise and remove accordingly.

COMMENT Nate Gilman on 10/30/2026 01:48 PM

Per the email on 10/29, this criteria is not required and can be removed from the project/specifications. This is be addressed in Add 01.

QUESTION Wyatt Foerch on 10/30/2026 12:04 PM

Sheet G101 for Whitehall Middle School references the 2015 Michigan Energy Code and ASHRAE 90.1-2013. With

ASHRAE 90.1 - 2019 becoming effective in April of 2025, please clarify the following:

1. Confirm the applicable Michigan Energy Code and edition of ASHRAE 90.1 governing the project, including whether

ASHRAE 90.1-2019 applies.

2. If ASHRAE 90.1-2019 applies, confirm whether third-party building envelope commissioning is required, including submittal review and field inspections of applicable envelope systems.

3. Confirm whether third-party MEP design review is required under the applicable energy code.

COMMENT Nate Gilman on 10/30/2026 03:33 PM

1. Correct, MEC 2021 and ASHRAE 2019 are the effective versions. This will be updated on G101 for Add01

2. The "Energy Standards" paragraph is still accurate as there was no change in this area between effective years.

There may be a couple areas that fall under the exception, however this would need to be discussed with the building official/inspector. Yes, verification is required for only new fenestration, walls, doors, etc. per chapter 5.

3. Yes, verification is required for new systems, and their integration with existing (where appliable).

QUESTION Wyatt Foerch on 10/30/2026 01:35 PM

The geofoam requirements in Foundation Plan Note 5 on Drawing S201 do not appear to correspond with an available product. Specifically, no extruded polystyrene geofoam has been identified that documents a compressive strength of

100 psi at no more than 5% deflection.

Please provide an acceptable basis-of-design product, a list of approved manufacturers and products, or revised performance criteria that can be used for bidding and submittal review.

COMMENT Nate Gilman on 11/2/2026 12:29 PM

Refer to the attached response from JDH.
