SECTION 233713 - DIFFUSERS, REGISTERS, AND GRILLES

Revise this Section by deleting and inserting text to meet Project-specific requirements.

This Section uses the term "Architect." Change this term to match that used to identify the design professional as defined in the General and Supplementary Conditions.

Verify that Section titles referenced in this Section are correct for this Project's Specifications; Section titles may have changed.

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes:

1. Adjustable bar registers.

2. Fixed face grilles.

B. Related Sections:

Retain Sections in subparagraphs below that contain requirements Contractor might expect to find in this Section but are specified in other Sections.

1. Section 233300 "Air Duct Accessories" for fire and smoke dampers and volume-control dampers not integral to diffusers, registers, and grilles.

1.2 ACTION SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated, include the following:

1. Data Sheet: Indicate materials of construction, finish, and mounting details; and performance data including throw and drop, static-pressure drop, and noise ratings.

2. Diffuser, Register, and Grille Schedule: Indicate drawing designation, room location, quantity, model number, size, and accessories furnished.

Paragraph below assumes manufacturer's standard-size Samples are acceptable. Revise to suit Project.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

Descriptions of diffusers, registers, and grilles include required attributes that define air outlets and inlets. Each description must be edited to include a drawing designation. If there is more than one type of outlet or inlet for a particular description, copy the paragraph for each type required and edit each copy to define each required type. Assign each type a different drawing designation.

2.1 REGISTERS AND GRILLES

Copy paragraphs below and re-edit for each product.

Insert number to complete drawing designation for each product required. Use these designations on Drawings to identify each product.

A. Adjustable Bar Register:

See Editing Instruction No. 1 in the Evaluations for cautions about naming manufacturers. Retain one of first two subparagraphs and list of manufacturers below. See Section 016000 "Product Requirements."

1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by on of the following:

Retain option in first subparagraph below if manufacturer's name and model number are indicated in schedules or plans on Drawings; delete option and insert manufacturer's name and model number if not included on Drawings.

a. Krueger.

b. Price Industries.

c. Titus.

2. Material: Steel.

3. Finish: Baked enamel, white.

4. Face Blade Arrangement: Horizontal spaced 3/4 inch apart.

5. Core Construction: Integral.

Retain first subparagraph below if rear blades are required.

6. Rear-Blade Arrangement: Vertical spaced 3/4 inch apart.

7. Frame: 1 inch wide.

Retain first subparagraph below if mounting frame is required.

8. Mounting: Countersunk screw.

9. Damper Type: Adjustable opposed blade.

10. Accessories:

a. Front-blade gang operator.

B. Adjustable Bar Grille:

See Editing Instruction No. 1 in the Evaluations for cautions about naming manufacturers. Retain one of first two subparagraphs and list of manufacturers below. See Section 016000 "Product Requirements."

1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

Retain option in first subparagraph below if manufacturer's name and model number are indicated in schedules or plans on Drawings; delete option and insert manufacturer's name and model number if not included on Drawings.

a. Krueger.

c. Titus.

2. Material: Steel.

2.2 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL

A. Verification of Performance: Rate diffusers, registers, and grilles according to ASHRAE 70, "Method of Testing for Rating the Performance of Air Outlets and Inlets."

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install registers, and grilles level and plumb.

B. Install registers, and grilles with airtight connections to ducts and to allow service and maintenance of dampers, air extractors, and fire dampers.

3.2 ADJUSTING

A. After installation, adjust diffusers, registers, and grilles to air patterns indicated, or as directed, before starting air balancing.
