SECTION 077253 - SNOW GUARDS
Revise this Section by deleting and inserting text to meet Project-specific requirements.
This Section uses the term "Architect." Change this term to match that used to identify the design professional as defined in the General and Supplementary Conditions.
Verify that Section titles referenced in this Section are correct for this Project's Specifications; Section titles may have changed.
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
Retain or delete this article in all Sections of Project Manual.
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 SUMMARY
A. Section Includes:
1. Rail-type, seam-mounted snow guards.
1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for snow guards.
B. Shop Drawings: Include roof plans showing layouts and attachment details of snow guards.
Retain first subparagraph below for rail-type snow guards.
1. Include details of rail-type snow guards.
2. Include calculation of number and location of snow guards based on snow load, roof slope, roof type, components, spacings, and finish.
First option in "Samples" Paragraph below applies to pad-type snow guards. Second option applies to rail-type snow guards.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
See Editing Instruction No. 1 in the Evaluations for cautions about named manufacturers and products. For an explanation of options and Contractor's product selection procedures, see Section 016000 "Product Requirements."
2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Performance Requirements: Provide snow guards that withstand exposure to weather and resist thermally induced movement without failure, rattling, or fastener disengagement due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction.
Differential values in "Temperature Change" Subparagraph below (for aluminum in particular) are suitable for most of the U.S.
1. Temperature Change: 120 deg F (67 deg C), ambient; 180 deg F (100 deg C), material surfaces.
Retain "Structural Performance" Paragraph below if detailed design is assigned to manufacturer.
2.2 RAIL-TYPE SNOW GUARDS
A. Seam-Mounted, Rail-Type Snow Guards:
Retain "Manufacturers" Subparagraph and list of manufacturers below to require products from manufacturers listed or a comparable product from other manufacturers.
1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:
Retain "Basis-of-Design Product" Subparagraph and list of manufacturers below to identify a specific product or a comparable product from manufacturers listed. Retain option and delete insert note if manufacturer's name and model number are indicated on Drawings.
a. Alpine SnowGuards; a division of Vermont Slate & Copper Services, Inc.
b. LMCurbs.
c. Metal Roof Innovations, Ltd.; S-5! Attachment Solutions.
d. Snow Management Systems; a division of Contek, Inc.
e. TRA-MAGE, Inc.
f. Or approved equal.
Last option in "Description" Subparagraph below corresponds with proprietary "ColorGard" system by Metal Roof Innovations and is licensed through some other manufacturers.
2. Description: Snow guard rails fabricated from metal pipes, bars, or extrusions, anchored to brackets and equipped with one rail.
Retain one of three "Material and Finish" subparagraphs below.
3. Material and Finish: Aluminum; color to match roofing.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine substrates and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances, snow guard attachment, and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.
B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install snow guards according to manufacturer's written instructions. Space rows as recommended by manufacturer.
Retain paragraph(s) below for roofing and snow guard types used for Project.
B. Attachment for Standing-Seam Metal Roofing:
1. Do not use fasteners that will penetrate metal roofing, or fastening methods that void metal roofing finish warranty.
2. Seam-Mounted, Rail-Type Snow Guards: Stainless-steel clamps attached to vertical ribs of standing-seam metal roof panels.
