1.8 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
Measurement and payment shall be made as specified in Section 01 22 00
MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MATERIALS
2.1.1 General
Certificates of Compliance are required for the following materials:
reinforcement bolts, bearing plates, washers, and nuts. The certificates are to confirm the materials listed meet the requirements for each product listed in the following paragraphs.
2.1.2 Reinforcement Bolts, All-Thread Bars
Reinforcement bolt shall be 1¼ inch diameter, galvanized, all-thread bars, 150 ksi, all-thread bar post tensioning steel conforming to ASTM A722/A722M and ASTM A615/A615M physical standards. The delivered bolts shall be 40 feet in length, and may be cut to the required length. Reinforcement bolt, all-thread bars shall have concentric deformations that ensure consistent cross sectional strength at all points along the steel bar. The thread deformations shall be a close tolerance four pitch design that deters loosening of couplings or hex nuts when the rod is subject to vibration.
2.1.3 Bearing Plates
Bearing plates shall be constructed of structural steel conforming to ASTM A36/A36M. Width, length, and thickness of the bearing plate shall be compatible for use with the rock bolt utilized and the manufacturer's reinforcement bolt maximum design load. Bearing plates may be dished bolt hole type to be used with spherical nut or round bolt hole type to be used with flat and bevel washers.
2.1.4 Thread Lubricant
Thread lubricant use is optional. If the Contractor chooses to use thread lubricant, it shall be molybdenum base lubricant. Thread lubricant shall not be allowed to contaminate reinforcement bolt or grout.
2.1.5 Reinforcement Bolt Hardware
Reinforcement bolt expansion wedges and shells, nuts, washers, bevel washers, or other rock bolt hardware shall be that recommended by the rock bolt manufacturer or otherwise compatible and manufactured for the application. Reinforcement bolt nuts shall be rated at the same ultimate strength as the all-thread bar bolts. Nuts shall be galvanized in accordance with ASTM A123/A123M. Washers will be hardened in accordance with ASTM F436.
2.1.6 Reinforcement Bolt Corrosion Protection
Corrosion protection, beyond galvanization, is not required for reinforcement bolts installed under this contract.

2.1.7 Cement Grout
Cement grout mixture proportions are the responsibility of the Contractor.
Grout for grouting bolts shall consist of a homogenous, pumpable, stable mixture of portland cement and water. Submit the proposed mix design to the Contracting Officer for approval. The water content shall be the minimum necessary for proper placement but the water-cement ratio shall not exceed 0.45 by weight. Final proportions of materials shall be based on results of tests made on sample mixtures of grout. The minimum compressive strength of two-inch cubes, molded, cured, and tested in accordance with ASTM C109/C109M, shall be 2,000 psi at 28 days. The Contractor is responsible for taking, curing, and breaking of grout test cubes for determining mix design, and all testing shall be done by a Corps-certified laboratory approved by the Contracting Officer. Rock conditions and temperatures shall be replicated in the curing process.
2.1.8 Centralizers
Centralizers shall be fabricated from plastic, steel or other approved material which is not detrimental to the galvanized bolts. Wood shall not be used. The centralizer shall be able to support the tendon in the drill hole and position the tendon so a minimum of 0.5 inch of grout cover is provided. Centralizers shall permit grout to flow freely in the drill hole.
2.2 EQUIPMENT
2.2.1 Drill Rig
Drilling equipment will be of size and type which is capable of drilling air percussion holes of the required diameters, angles, and depths, and within required alignment tolerances. The drilling equipment shall be subject to approval of the Contracting Officer.
2.2.2 Grouting Equipment
2.2.2.1 Grout Mixer
The grout mixer shall be a high-speed, high-shear, colloidal type grout mixer capable of continuous mechanical mixing that will produce uniform and thoroughly mixed grout which is free of lumps and undispersed cement. The mixer shall be equipped with suitable water and admixture measuring devices calibrated to read in cubic feet and tenths and so designed that after each delivery the hands can be conveniently set back to zero.
2.2.2.2 Grout Pump
The grout pump shall be of the positive displacement type, and shall be capable of pumping at all flow rates below 20 gpm, shall be capable of pumping at the pressure of at least 50 psi at zero flow rate. For neat cement grout, the pump shall have a screen with 0.125 inch maximum clearance to sieve the grout before being introduced into the pump.
Screens are not required for shear type mixers. Make available a pump which is capable of pumping both neat cement grout mixes and sanded grout mixes. The pumping equipment shall have a pressure gage capable of measuring pressures of at least 150 psi or twice the required grout pressure, whichever is greater.
