1.4 SURVEYS

1.4.1 Initial Survey

An initial survey will be required of the site to include existing contours and site layout prior to excavation, blasting, demolition, etc. Features to be included are the existing fuse plug, saddle dam (surface elevation of the concrete panels), and contractor laydown area(s) including existing haul roads. No work will be allowed to begin before this survey is performed, reviewed, and approved by the COR for RCC excavation & construction to begin. Survey shall be performed by LiDAR or other method approved by COR.

1.4.2 Final Survey

A final survey will be required to include final grading of the completed site above, below, and along the sides of the RCC structure (to include

SECTION 31 00 00 Page 5 aprons, side slopes, drainage features), all haul roads, and all utilities incorporated into the final site layout. Final survey shall show contours of drainage features, site grading (to include tie in to existing contours in areas not disturbed as part of this work). Survey shall be performed by LiDAR or other method approved by COR.

1.5 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

Measurement and payment shall be made as specified in Section 01 22 00

MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT.

1.6 DEFINITIONS

1.6.1 Satisfactory Materials

In general, satisfactory materials shall comprise any materials classified by ASTM D2487 as GC, GP-GC, GM-GC, SW, SP, SM, SW-SM, SC, SW-SC, SP-SM, SP-SC, CL, ML, CL-ML, CH, MH, but the materials must be suitable for the intended use. Satisfactory materials intended for fill must meet the respective requirements for Engineered Rock Fill, Graded Solid Rock Fill, and Common Fill.

1.6.2 Unsatisfactory Materials

Materials which do not comply with the requirements for satisfactory materials are unsatisfactory. Unsatisfactory materials also include man-made fills; trash; refuse; and material classified as satisfactory which contains root and other organic matter or frozen material. The Contracting Officer shall be notified of any contaminated materials.

1.6.3 Cohesionless and Cohesive Materials

Cohesionless materials include materials classified in ASTM D2487 as GW, GP, SW, and SP. Cohesive materials include materials classified as GC, SC, ML, CL, MH, and CH. Materials classified as GM and SM will be identified as cohesionless only when the fines are nonplastic. Testing required for classifying materials shall be in accordance with ASTM D4318, ASTM C136, ASTM D422, and ASTM D1140.

1.6.4 Degree of Compaction

Degree of compaction required is expressed as a percentage of the maximum density obtained by the test procedure presented in ASTM D698 abbreviated as a percent of laboratory maximum density for cohesive materials. For cohesionless materials, refer to ASTM D4253.

1.6.5 Engineered Rock Fill

The Engineered Rock Fill shall comprise of appropriately sized and graded rock. The Engineered Rock Fill shall comprise of the rock fill placed in the void between the RCC Berm and the existing Saddle Dam. The Engineered Rock Fill shall consist of rock excavated on site which includes the Stabilizing Berm footprint excavation and Left Rim Stabilization.

1.6.6 Graded Solid Rock Fill

The Graded Solid Rock Fill shall comprise of appropriately sized and graded rock. The Graded Solid Rock Fill shall comprise of the rock fill placed in the following locations, but not limited to sinkhole repair, left rim slope

SECTION 31 00 00 Page 6

3.13 SLIDES

In the event that slides occur along or in the excavated rock slopes during the construction period, or after construction but before final acceptance by the Contracting Officer's Representative, the Contractor shall remove and dispose of the slide material, and shall excavate and dispose of such additional material as the Contracting Officer's Representative may determine is necessary to leave the slope(s) in a neat and stable condition. No additional payment will be made for such excavation unless the Contracting Officer's Representative determines that the slide was caused by conditions beyond the reasonable control of the Contractor. In the event that the Contracting Officer's Representative determines that the slide was caused by conditions which were beyond the reasonable control of the Contractor, then payment will be made at the unit prices for the classes of excavation which the Contracting Officer's Representative determines to be appropriate.

3.14 SURVEY

The Contractor shall have a Licensed Land Surveyor conduct surveys for the purpose of calculating all excavation quantities. At a minimum, pre and post construction surveys of both cut and fill areas shall be made under this contract. If progress payments are requested then a survey shall be performed to determine quantities for payment. Survey shall be performed by LiDAR or other method approved by COR. As minimum requirements for an individual survey, four temporary bench marks shall be established at the top "corners" of the area to be excavated. The top of rock, each elevation that a bench is established, and the area of each final grade excavation shall be surveyed. Copies of each survey, not later than 10-days after conducted, shall be provided to the Contracting Officer's Representative.

These surveys shall be provided to the Contracting Officer in a georeferenced, three-dimensional Microstation file(s) and cross sections at 50 ft intervals for the excavation and disposal sites shall be submitted in pdf format. A final, as built survey of the excavation shall be provided no more than 10-days after final excavation of the foundation has been approved.

Surveys shall be referenced to and temporary benchmarks shall be located by Primary grid - Tennessee State Plane Coordinate System, (NAD 1983, feet) and station and offset referenced to the axis of the RCC berm or the baseline established for the left rim, and vertical control based on NAVD (1988).

3.15 FOUNDATION PREPARATION

The final grade for the RCC berm foundation as shown in the drawings or determined by the Contracting Officer's Representative shall require preparation. This preparation shall consist two phases; Preliminary (which may be repeated several times) and Final, see Section 31 60 00 FOUNDATION

PREPARATION.

3.16 DENTAL CONCRETE AND MORTAR

Unsuitable geologic conditions at the final excavation grade shall be excavated, cleaned, and filled with dental concrete or dental mortar as directed by the Contracting Officer's Representative, see Section 31 60 00

FOUNDATION PREPARATION.
