About this file
This image is a geological core analysis chart for Core No. 88-80 obtained at a water depth of 35 feet in the Sea Bright Borrow Area, located in New Jersey State Transverse Mercator Grid coordinates (X = 2200239, Y = 585892). The chart presents penetration time and vibration time data collected by Alpine Ocean Seismic Survey, Inc. for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District.
The core description identifies three distinct stratigraphic intervals. The upper layer (0.0' to 6.6') consists of fine to medium sand with a lens of fine to medium gravel and trace shells, ranging from light brown to light gray in color. The middle layer (6.6' to 13.0') comprises fine to medium sand and gravel in light gray. The lower layer (13.0' to 20.0') contains fine to medium sand with light gray coloration and scattered shell fragments in layers. A fourth interval (20.0' to 30.0') is noted as fine to medium sand with shell fragments and trace fine gravel, light gray in color, with fine sand layers up to 1 foot thick interbedded with coarser sand layers. The penetration and vibration time data are graphically plotted to demonstrate the geotechnical properties of the core at various depths.
