About this file
This document is a Demolition Specification (Section 02 41 00) for the Rio Puerto Nuevo Project Main Channel Design Supplemental Contract 3 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The specification provides comprehensive instructions for demolition activities, including the removal of existing structures, utilities, equipment, and materials with specific requirements for handling, recycling, and disposal.
Key demolition requirements include completely removing existing bridge components and channel lining, demolishing concrete piles to 2 feet below the final channel invert, and systematically dismantling structures from top to bottom. The contractor must coordinate closely with LUMA (the local utility) for equipment inventory, recycling, and asset recovery. Special attention is given to environmental compliance, such as proper handling of ozone-depleting substances, transformer recycling, and waste management. The specification also identifies specific items for reuse, including a kiosk, garbage facility, and gondola cables, with detailed instructions for their careful removal and preservation.
