About this file

This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19) detailing a comprehensive maintenance and repair project for the ship's Distillate Fuel Overflow or Ballast Tank (9-30-0-F). The work scope includes cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving the tank, which has a capacity of 64,254 gallons and covers approximately 10,100 square feet of interior surface. The project involves multiple critical tasks such as commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection, structural repairs including welding and plate replacements, and applying new preservation coatings.

The maintenance project is scheduled to begin on January 12, 2026, and is set to be completed by June 12, 2027, with work to be performed at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) Naval Base in Japan. Special requirements include Level III cleaning, potential lead hazard considerations, and fabrication of a non-flammable closure for fire zone boundary work. The instruction specifies detailed procedures for tank preparation, structural assessment, repair methodologies, and quality assurance, with oversight from various naval maintenance teams including SRF-JRMC (Ship Repair Facility Japan Regional Maintenance Center).
