About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for an electrical construction project at FCI – Butner, Unicor 2 HWY 75, Butner, North Carolina 27509. The primary scope involves installing new utility service with a pad-mounted transformer furnished by Duke Energy, and upgrading the facility's electrical service and distribution equipment to accommodate new and future Injection Molding Machines. All work except the new utility service will be performed within the facility's secure zone.
Key requirements include: (1) contractor provision of a new concrete pad and underground conduits per Duke Energy standards, with the pad compacted to 95% density per ASTM D 698 and graded for proper drainage; (2) removal of the existing utility transformer pad and associated conduits in coordination with Duke Energy; (3) replacement of existing service entrance panelboard EP2 with a new unit and connection of existing and new feeders; (4) installation of two new branch panelboards (EP6 in shop area and EP7 in electrical room), with EP7 connected to an existing 300 kVA transformer requiring removal and replacement of existing feeder connections; (5) interception and rerouting of existing branch circuits to new panelboards; and (6) field verification of existing conditions, routing approval from the Owner's representative, and field measurements for all feeder and circuit lengths. The contractor is responsible for coordinating all work associated with the new utility service with Duke Energy, obtaining their installation standards and approved vendors list, and ensuring minimum power interruption to the facility with advance approval from the facility's representative. Work shall comply with the latest applicable standards and codes adopted by the Authority having Jurisdiction, with detailed requirements specified in referenced drawings and technical specifications addressing materials, conductors, grounding, raceways, panelboards, and fuses.

b. All work shall be performed at a minimum in accordance with the latest applicable edition adopted by the Authority having jurisdiction of the applicable standards and codes. Reference General Electrical Notes on Sheet E001.
c. Drawings are diagrammatical. All electrical equipment locations are approximately only. For all measurements use field surveys. Wiring and conduit systems are strictly diagrammatic and do not indicate every required fitting, elbow, transition, junction box or similar items that are required for a complete system.
d. A New Utility pad-mounted transformer to be furnished and installed by Duke Energy. All work associated with new utility service is required to be coordinated with Duke Energy. Reference Site Plan (Sheet E100) and Feeder Diagrams (Sheet E201).
1) Contractor shall provide new concrete pad and required underground conduits in accordance with Duke Energy’s standards. Refer to Sheets E100 and E201.
i. Contractor shall contact Duke Energy’s and obtain their Installation Standards and Requirements prior to commencement of work. All work shall be coordinated with Duke Energy.
ii. Contractor shall obtain Duke Energy’s list of approved vendors for the new utility transformer pre-cast concrete pad.
iii. Contractor shall provide support and compaction of pad. Pad must support the transformer weight with backfill and compacted to 95% density as per ASTM D 698 to prevent uneven settling.
iv. Pad shall be installed to ensure water drains away from the transformer.
v. Trenches shall be backfilled to provide a stable and level base.
2) Contractor shall provide transformer pad grounding. Refer to typical grounding detail on sheet E100.
i. Contractor shall obtain Duke Energy’s pad mounted transformer’s grounding requirements and provide grounding in accordance with their requirements.
3) The underground service will require the installation of an in-ground pull box, and extension of existing secondary feeders to new pad-mounted transformer. Refer to Sheet E100 for approximate location and Sheet E201 for demolition and new work.
i. It is the Contractor’s responsibility to field verify exact location of existing pad mounted transformer, existing feeder locations, new in-ground pull box, feeder extension to new pad-mounted transformer, etc.
4) The existing utility transformer pad and associated conduits not to be reused shall be removed. Contractor shall coordinate with Duke Energy for removal of transformer. Refer to Sheets E100 and E201 for demolition and new work.
