About this file
This is a Technical Specifications document for Section 262813 - Fuses, part of the Federal Bureau of Prisons Electrical Service Upgrades project in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, administered by MCA, LLC and UNICOR, FPI as of March 20, 2026.
The specification requires cartridge fuses rated 600V ac and less for control circuits, panelboards, and enclosed switches, along with spare-fuse cabinets. All fuses must be NEMA FU 1 current-limiting, nonrenewable cartridge fuses with 200 kAIC rating and must be obtained from a single manufacturer for each specific product or circuit. Required fuse types include: Type RK-1 and RK-5 (250-V, zero to 600-A); Type CC (600-V, zero to 30-A, fast acting); Type CD (600-V, 31 to 60-A, fast acting); Type J (600-V, zero to 600-A, time delay); Type L (600-V, 601 to 6000-A, time delay); and Type T (250-V, zero to 1200-A, very fast acting). All electrical components must be listed and labeled per NFPA 70 by a qualified testing agency. Fuse applications are specified by circuit type: Class L fast acting for service entrance and feeders, Class RK1 time delay for motor and other branch circuits, Class L time delay for large motors (601-4000A), Class J high speed for power electronics, and Class CC time delay for control transformer circuits. Maintenance material submittals require spare fuses equal to 10 percent of installed quantity for each size and type, minimum three of each. The specification includes detailed action submittals requiring product data, ambient temperature adjustment information, current-limitation curves, time-current coordination curves in PDF format, coordination charts, and fuse sizing for elevator applications. The spare-fuse cabinet must be a wall-mounted steel unit with gray baked enamel finish, piano-hinged door, key-coded cam lock, and labeled "SPARE FUSES" with adequate capacity for 15 percent spare margin.
