About this file
This is a Technical Specifications document for Section 260533 (Raceways and Boxes for Electrical Systems) prepared by MCA, LLC for the Federal Bureau of Prisons Electrical Service Upgrades project in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, dated March 20, 2026. The specification covers the complete selection and installation requirements for electrical raceways, conduit systems, boxes, enclosures, and related components required for the facility upgrade.
The products section specifies multiple raceway types including Type EMT-A and EMT-SS (stainless steel electrical metal tubing), Type EMT-S (steel tubing), Type LFMC and LFNC (liquidtight flexible metal and nonmetallic conduit), and Type PVC conduit in both Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 configurations. Additional products include fittings for all conduit types, threaded metal joint compounds, solvent cements, strut-type channel raceways, wireways, auxiliary gutters, and various metallic and nonmetallic outlet boxes, device boxes, junction boxes, pull boxes, and enclosures. All products must be listed and labeled in accordance with NFPA 70 and meet specified UL standards and category control numbers. The execution section establishes installation standards requiring compliance with NFPA 70, NECA guidelines (NEIS 101 for steel raceways and NEIS 111 for nonmetallic raceways), and NEMA standards for raceway fittings. Installation requirements address raceway routing, support spacing, proper termination with locknuts and bushings, bending limitations (maximum three 90-degree bends except for control wiring), sealing at environmental boundaries, protection from moisture and vibration, and specific handling for flexible conduit (maximum 36 inches for vibration-prone equipment). Box and enclosure installation must include proper support mechanisms, degree of protection ratings ranging from Type 1 to Type 4X depending on environmental exposure, and cast-metal boxes for exposed installations below 8 feet. The specification also requires firestopping at fire-rated penetrations and protective measures to maintain coating and finish integrity throughout installation.
