About this file
This is a technical specification section for hangers and supports for electrical systems on a Federal Bureau of Prisons electrical service upgrades project in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, dated March 20, 2026.
The specification requires support, anchorage, and attachment components including steel and nonmetallic slotted support systems, conduit and cable support devices, structural steel fabrications, and various mounting and anchoring components. Steel slotted support systems must comply with MFMA-4 standards with preformed channels and angles featuring minimum 13/32-inch diameter holes at 8-inch centers, available in galvanized, PVC, polyurethane, polyester, or painted finishes. Nonmetallic slotted support systems must be structural-grade glass-fiber-resin with matching hole specifications. Mounting and anchoring options are specified for different substrate types: lag screws or through bolts for wood, concrete inserts for new concrete, toggle bolts for hollow masonry, expansion anchors for existing concrete, welded threaded studs for steel, and sheet metal screws for light steel. Installation must comply with NECA NEIS standards 101, 102, 105, and 111, with minimum hanger rod size of 1/4 inch diameter and minimum static design loads of 200 pounds plus supported component weight. Trapeze-type supports must be sized to allow 25 percent capacity increase for future use. Field welding requires AWS D1.1/D1.1M compliance with submitted welding certificates. Concrete bases must be 3000 psi compressive strength with anchors positioned minimum 10 bolt diameters from edges. Paint touchup requires minimum 2.0 mils dry film thickness, and galvanized surfaces must receive repair paint per ASTM A780.

E. Multiple Raceways or Cables: Install trapeze-type supports fabricated with steel slotted support system, sized so capacity can be increased by at least 25 percent in future without exceeding specified design load limits.
1. Secure raceways and cables to these supports with two-bolt conduit clamps.
F. Spring-steel clamps designed for supporting single conduits without bolts may be used for 1-
1/2 inch and smaller raceways serving branch circuits and communication systems above suspended ceilings, and for fastening raceways to trapeze supports.
3.2 INSTALLATION OF SUPPORTS
