About this file

This document is a comprehensive specification for asbestos abatement and lead-based paint removal at the Lake City VA Medical Center in Florida, focusing on patient privacy deficiencies in the 2 North and 2 South areas. The project involves detailed requirements for safely removing asbestos-containing materials and lead-based paint, including strict protocols for worker protection, containment, air monitoring, waste disposal, and decontamination procedures. Key specifications include using specialized personal protective equipment, establishing negative air pressure systems, conducting air quality testing, implementing rigorous cleaning and disposal methods, and ensuring comprehensive worker training and medical monitoring.

The project requires a certified industrial hygienist to oversee operations, with specific requirements for respiratory protection, medical surveillance, and waste management. The abatement work involves removing approximately 825 square feet of flooring and mastic, 300 linear feet of duct with black mastic, 75 linear feet of aircell pipe insulation, and 25 linear feet of black mastic on hard pipe elbows. The contractor must comply with OSHA, EPA, and other federal regulations, use specialized equipment like HEPA filtration systems, and follow detailed procedures for containment, removal, and final clearance testing to ensure safe and thorough asbestos and lead-based paint removal.
