About this file

This document is a Structural Interior Design (SID) Package for the B332 Renovation project at Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst in Lakehurst, New Jersey. The design package, prepared by Blair Remy Architects and Merrick & Company in January 2025, details the interior design specifications for Building 332, which is part of a larger lab expansion project. The interior design focuses on creating a safe, productive, and comfortable environment for manufacturing personnel and administrative staff, with a warm, analogous color palette and complementary accents.

The design package specifies detailed finishes for various rooms, including the Reverse Engineering area, CT Room, admin offices, break room, restrooms, and janitor's closet. Consistent design elements include epoxy flooring, painted CMU and gypsum walls with eggshell finish, stainless steel wall base, and various ceiling treatments such as exposed structure painted white or lay-in acoustic ceiling tiles. Wood and metal doors will be stained or painted, and all exposed gypsum wallboard corners will receive stainless steel corner guards. The design also considers exterior finishes to be compatible with surrounding facilities, including Hangar 1, which is part of the Lighter Than Air Historic Preservation District.

2. General Description:

The B331/332 Lab Expansion at Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst (JBMDL) will consist of a single-story addition and the renovation of two existing facilities and will be separated into three projects. This document discusses the Structural Interior Design (SID) for the third project, the renovation of B-332. The addition was constructed in the first project and B-331 was renovated in the second. The intent of the interior design is to create a safe, productive, and comfortable environment for all manufacturing personnel and administrative staff of the facility.

Exterior finishes have been selected to be compatible with surrounding facilities, including Hangar 1, that are part of the Lighter Than Air Historic Preservation District.

3. SID Narrative:

The Interior color scheme will include a warm, analogous color palette for the background and complementary accents. The goal is to achieve visual continuity and overall cohesiveness with durability, longevity, and flexibility in mind throughout the facility.

a. Reverse Engineering: Flooring will be epoxy. The walls will be CMU and gypsum wall board with a level 4 finish, eggshell paint, and stainless-steel wall base. The ceiling will be exposed to the structure above and painted white. Wood doors will be stained and door frames will be painted. Metal doors and frames will be painted. All exposed gypsum wallboard corners will receive stainless steel corner guards.

b. CT Room and Closet: Flooring will be epoxy. The walls will be painted gypsum wall board with a level 4 finish, eggshell paint, and stainless-steel wall base. c. Admin and Offices: Flooring will be epoxy. The walls will be painted CMU and gypsum wall board with a level 4 finish, eggshell paint, and stainless-steel wall base. The ceiling will be lay-in acoustical ceiling tile (ACT) in a 2’-0” x 2’-0” grid. Wood doors will be stained wood and door frames will be painted. All exposed gypsum wallboard corners will receive stainless steel corner guards.

d. Break Room: Flooring will be epoxy. The walls will be gypsum wall board with a level 4 finish, eggshell paint, and stainless-steel wall base. The ceiling will be lay-in ACT in a 2’-0” x 2’-0” grid. The upper and lower cabinets will be finished with plastic laminate. The countertop will be a solid surface material with integral four-inch-high backsplash and a ceramic tile backsplash above. Wood doors will be stained and door frames will be painted.

e. Restrooms: Flooring will be epoxy. Both rooms will have full-height ceramic wall tile at wet walls; the remaining walls will be gypsum wall board with a level 4 finish and eggshell paint. All walls will receive stainless-steel wall base. The ceiling will be moisture-resistant gypsum board with a level 4 finish and eggshell paint. Knee guards and closure panels will be finished with plastic laminate. The countertop will be a solid surface material with integral four-inch-high backsplash and apron. Wood doors will be stained and door frames will be painted.
