About this file
This document is a Structural Interior Design (SID) package for an Additive Lab Addition at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Lakehurst, New Jersey. The project involves constructing a single-story addition to Buildings 331 and 332, with the current document focusing on the first project phase - the new addition. The interior design aims to create a safe, productive environment for manufacturing personnel and administrative staff, with special attention to dust mitigation in additive manufacturing spaces.
Key design specifications include electrostatic dissipative (ESD) epoxy flooring, gypsum wallboard with gloss paint, exposed white-painted structural ceilings, and stainless steel corner guards. The design addresses specific challenges like metallic dust accumulation by selecting highly wipeable surfaces and implementing dust prevention measures. The high-risk functions are located in the southern portion of the plan, with specialized areas like the Additive Lab, Particulate Containment, Optomec Containment, and Powder Handling spaces receiving targeted design treatments to manage potential environmental and safety risks.

2. General Description:
The B331/332 Lab Expansion at Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst (JBMDL) will consist of a single-story addition and the renovation of two existing facilities and will be separated into three projects. This document discusses the Structural Interior Design (SID) for the first project, the construction of the addition. B-331 will be renovated in the second and B-332 will be renovated in the third. The intent of the interior design is to create a safe, productive, and comfortable environment for all manufacturing personnel and administrative staff of the facility.
Exterior finishes have been selected to be compatible with surrounding facilities, including Hangar 1, that are part of the Lighter Than Air Historic Preservation District.
3. SID Narrative:
The Interior color scheme will include a cool, analogous color palette for the background and complementary accents. The goal is to achieve visual continuity and overall cohesiveness with durability, longevity, and flexibility in mind throughout the facility.
a. Additive Manufacturing Spaces:
The machines and processes housed in the occupied portions of the addition generate metallic dust that poses significant danger to the occupants if left to accumulate. Interior finishes have been selected to provide highly wipeable and cleanable surfaces to aid dust mitigation measures already in place. Static electricity is also a concern, therefore electrostatic dissipative (ESD) flooring will be provided.
The functions posing the highest risk have been collocated to the south of the plan and have been treated with additional dust prevention measures.
a. Additive Lab: Flooring will be ESD epoxy with an integral wall base. The walls will be gypsum wall board with a level 4 finish and gloss paint. The ceiling will be exposed to the structure and painted white. Doors and frames will be painted. All exposed gypsum wallboard corners will receive stainless steel corner guards.
b. Additive Lab (Particulate Containment), Optomec Containment, and Powder Handling:
Flooring will be ESD epoxy with an integral wall base. The walls will be gypsum wall board with a level 4 finish and gloss paint. The ceiling will be metal ceiling tile in a 24”x24” grid.
Doors and frames will be painted. The southwest hallway of the Additive Lab (Particulate Containment) will receive a Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) wall panel wainscot to provide protection from impact from powder transportation equipment. Seams will be treated with a two-part polyurethane sealant to protect against dust accumulation. All exposed gypsum wallboard corners will receive stainless steel corner guards.
b. B-331 Restroom: Flooring will be vinyl composition tile (VCT). The walls will be gypsum wall board with a level 4 finish, eggshell paint, and resilient wall base. The ceiling will be moisture-resistant gypsum board with a level 4 finish and eggshell paint.

c. Building Support Spaces:
a. Communications Room: Flooring will be ESD VCT. The walls will be gypsum wall board with a level 3 finish, eggshell paint, and resilient wall base. The ceiling will be exposed to the structure and painted white. Doors and frames will be painted.
b. Utility Rooms: Flooring will be sealed concrete The walls will be gypsum wall board with a level 3 finish, eggshell paint, and resilient wall base. The ceiling will be exposed to the structure and painted white. Doors and frames will be painted.
