About this file
This Task Group Instruction (TGI) details a maintenance project for the USS Blue Ridge's potable water tank (9-74-0-W), scheduled for work between July 21, 2026, and October 21, 2027. The comprehensive maintenance involves disconnecting and reconnecting piping, commercial blast cleaning, visual inspection, and repair of the tank's structural components, including welding up to 60 square inches of plate defects, removing and installing new deteriorated plates, and performing nondestructive testing.
The project includes specific requirements for cleaning, chlorination, and bacteriological testing, with tests to be conducted by a qualified Japanese laboratory accredited by ISO 17025. The work will take place in multiple locations including the Potable Water Tank, Dry Provisions Storeroom, and Small Arms Magazine. Special considerations include potential lead and asbestos hazards, and the requirement for a non-flammable closure due to fire zone boundary work. The instruction involves multiple service components from SRF-JRMC, including crane services, utility services, safety inspections, and technical support.
