NOTE: Because a Justification and Approval (J&A) is required, the A/E must write a justification on A/E letterhead, as to the need for the proprietary item in the contract specification or indicated in the design.
3. Will there be site work that may involve merchantable timber on this project?
NOTE: Add the following paragraph, in an appropriate location of Division 02, when merchantable timber may be involved.
Merchantable Timber Removal: The Government will have the option to remove merchantable timber from the construction site prior to the Contractor starting his clearing operations. Merchantable timber will generally be harvested if there are five truckloads or more readily available for harvest. Hardwoods are not considered merchantable. The Contractor shall provide the Government a minimum 3 weeks written notice prior to the start of his clearing operations. The Government will take approximately 2 weeks to remove the merchantable timber, and will leave approximately 2 feet of stump for Contractor removal. Stumps, limbs, and smaller trees shall be left on site for the Contractor to dispose of. Merchantable timber shall remain the property of the Government.
REQUIRED FOR SECTION 01 35 29, "SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH REQUIREMENTS"
NOTE: Noise exposure from adjacent Government activities must be evaluated based on the exposure potential of the construction site to the Government activities. These activities may require the Contractor to provide a hearing protection program for his employees far in excess of what his work would require. If so, include the criteria so that it is part of the contract that the Contractor bids on. Add the following sentence if warranted:
NOTE: Designer to determine based on work location. Pre-design survey should indicated if an area exceeds 115 dba for more than 15 minutes in an 8 hour day, or over 90 dba continuously. Typical near airfields, aircrafts, machine shops, etc.
