About this file
This memorandum requests an exemption from criteria in Unified Facilities Criteria references for parking F-35 aircraft closer than normally allowed and permitting exhaust temperatures over stated limits at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. Specifically, the request is to park F-35 aircraft 170 feet apart nose to nose instead of the required 200 feet spacing, and to exceed the reference limits of 100 degrees Fahrenheit for exhaust temperature on the parking ramp. The Naval Air Station received a safety waiver from NAVAIR related to the parking and temperature exemption request.
The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation for P197 DB Aircraft Maintenance Hangar at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina to provide maintenance hangar services. The solicitation number is N4008521R2516 and was issued by the Department of the Navy Naval Facilities Engineering Command.
