Below is the DOR Basis of Design-
“New Elevator and Accessible Ramp with Entrance The existing connection from the DeWeldon Walkway to the existing egress stair in the 1960’s addition to Naval War College Mahan Hall building will be reconfigured and enlarged to include a new accessible ramp and an elevator machine room and entrance to an elevator lobby for the new in-ground piston type hydraulic, stretcher compliant elevator with front access to provide access to all four levels of the building.
Proposed Elevator Equipment (BOD – 3500 lb. Inground Borehole Passenger Elevator by MEI Total Elevator Solutions): A new stretcher compliant hydraulic (single-stage in-ground jack) elevator. Design capacity of the new elevator will be rated for 3500 lb.
capacity with a travel speed of 150 feet per minute (fpm) and front openings to enable access to all levels. The elevator equipment will be customized to enable front access at all floor levels. The customization is required due to the shorter than standard travel distance available between the existing floor levels resulting in a custom elevator equipment design. The MEI elevator model is customizable to accommodate the existing limited floor to floor distances. Inside clear dimensions of the elevator Cab will be 6'-8" by 5'-5" with single speed type 3'-6" wide doors at each level. Proposed Elevator Cab finishes are comprised of wood core laminate wall panel design, stainless steel base and rails, suspended white translucent ceiling light diffuser, brushed stainless steel doors and frames at each level, and traditional car fixtures in brushed stainless-steel faceplates with LED-illuminated signals.”
