About this file

This is a Local Work Template for nuclear-powered ships and nuclear support ships with special requirements, revised October 21, 2019. The document (LWT File No. 042-010, Item No. 042-00) outlines scope, requirements, and government-furnished materials for contractor work aboard nuclear vessels.

The scope addresses work on nuclear-powered ships and nuclear support ships with special requirements. Key requirements include personnel training and radiological safety compliance. All contractor personnel assigned to work on the vessel must be trained and familiar with radiological control instructions prior to boarding, with a list of trained personnel maintained for three years. Personnel must obey posted verbal and written radiological control instructions and must not enter any area marked with magenta three-bladed radiation symbols on yellow backgrounds, which identify zones where personnel may be exposed to radiation, radioactive contamination, or radioactive material. Yellow and magenta ribbons are also used to identify such restricted areas. Personnel outside these boundaries do not receive radiation exposure above levels stated in 10 CFR Part 20, the Code of Federal Regulations standard for protection against radiation. Additionally, contractor personnel must not touch yellow bands, yellow plastic or hercuilite bags, yellow wrappings, or yellow anti-contamination clothing if encountered unattended; any such items should be reported to the ship's quarterdeck. The contractor must submit one legible copy of the completed trained personnel list to the supervisor prior to commencement of work aboard the vessel. No government-furnished materials (LLTM, push material, or kitted material) are provided under this contract. No notes or references are specified in the template.
