8. TESTING.
8.1 Preparation for Test.
WARNING
Calibration fuel is flammable; do not use near open flames, liquid contact with eyes or skin can cause severe irritation and blurred vision.
Inhalation of vapor can cause irritation, headache, nausea, and dizziness. Wear approved PPE when exposed to vapors.
NOTE
Refer to TO 33D2-3-106-1 for operation and maintenance of
164101-100 test stand assembly.
Prior to start of all tests, all valves shall be open and regulators adjusted to zero.
a. Provide test setup as shown in Figure 3 or connect X8750322-01 tester assembly to
164101-100 test stand.
b. Provide a test record sheet, see Table 2, to record results of test procedures.
c. Install fuel atomizer assembly on
X8750322-01 tester assembly.
d. Provide filtered calibration fuel (33-23) at an inlet temperature of 80 (±5)°F (26
(±3)°C).
8.2 Leak Check.
a. Provide 3 (±1) psig inlet fuel pressure to bleed air from system.
b. Apply 350 (±10) psig inlet fuel pressure.
c. Check fuel atomizer assembly for leakage.
No leakage permitted from flow divider valve or housing.
8.3 Perform 10 psig Spray Pattern Check.
a. Apply 10 (±1) psig inlet fuel pressure.
b. There shall be no fizzing or bubbling
(Figure 4, pattern D), solid jets of fuel
(pattern F), or discontinuities (pattern E) in the spray pattern.
c. Replace plate set (Figure 2, 8) or distributor head (9) if spray pattern is unacceptable and retest.
8.4 Perform 25 psig Spray Pattern Check.
a. Apply 25 (±1) psig inlet fuel pressure.
(pattern F), or discontinuities (pattern E) in the spray pattern.
c. Flow spray angle and weight flow rate shall be within limits of Table 2.
d. Check and calculate spray angle concentricity.
(1) Using 180 degree protractor (Figure 3, 11), establish centerline of 90 degrees.
(2) At 1 inch from nozzle tip (Figure 5, RAD Q), measure ANGLE R and ANGLE T from centerline.
(3) Each angle measured from centerline shall compare within 3 degrees.

(4) Fuel atomizer assembly is unacceptable if flow spray angle or weight flow rate is not within limits in Table 2.
e. Replace plate set (Figure 2, 8) or distributor head (Figure 2, 9) if flow spray angle or weight flow rate is not within limits of Table 2 or if spray pattern is unacceptable. Retest if any replacements are made.
8.5 Flow Divider Opening Check.
NOTE
Flow divider valve opening is distinguished by a general thickening of spray pattern.
a. Adjust fuel inlet pressure to 5 (±1) psig below flow divider pressure shown in
Table 2. Gradually increase to 10 (±2) psig above opening pressure. Check for opening of flow divider valve. Valve opening shall occur within limits of Table
2.
b. Decreasing fuel inlet pressure to 25 (±1) psig. Recheck flow rate specified in Table
2 to ensure that flow divider valve has closed.
c. Replace flow divider valve (Figure 2, 1 or
2) if opening pressure is not within limits.
8.6 Perform 200 psig Spray Pattern Check.
a. Apply 200 (±2) psig fuel inlet pressure.
(pattern F), or discontinuities (pattern E) in the spray pattern. An acceptable pattern is pattern C.
c. Flow spray angle and weight flow rate shall be within limits of Table 2.
d. Check and calculate spray angle concentricity.
(4) Using 180 degree protractor (Figure 3, 11), establish centerline of 90 degrees.
(5) At 1 inch from nozzle tip (Figure 5, RAD Q), measure ANGLE R and ANGLE T from centerline.
(6) Each angle measured from centerline shall compare within 3 degrees.
(7) Fuel atomizer assembly is unacceptable if flow spray angle or weight flow rate is not within limits in Table 2.
e. Replace plate set (Figure 2, 8) or distributor head (9) if flow spray angle or weight flow rate is not within limits of
Table 2 or if spray pattern is unacceptable.
Retest if any replacements are made.
f. Remove inlet pressure and disconnect
X8750322-01 tester assembly. Remove fuel atomizer assembly from tester assembly.
g. Drain fuel atomizer assembly completely.
h. Inspect atomizer housing (Figure 2, 12) for proper atomizer assembly part number. If part number is correct, proceed to next step. If part number is incorrect, vibro-etch a single line through the incorrect part number no more than 0.010 inch deep. Vibro-etch the correct assembly part number on a non-functional surface of the housing (Figure 2, 12) using 1/8 inch high characters no deeper than 0.010 inch. Use Chromic Conversion Solution (3-
32A) to touch up etched areas.
i. Plug or cap all openings.
8.7 PRESERVATION
Preserve and package fuel atomizer assembly in accordance with Specification MIL-STD-2073, Method 10.
