1.02 Summary
A.
The Contractor shall furnish all supervision, labor, materials, tools, equipment, apparatus, and transportation required to complete the construction in conformity with the Contract Documents.
B.
The Project is located at Building 309, on Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Vienna OH.
C.
The Work consists of – but is not limited to – the following:
1.
Erect a new one‑story addition extending 31 feet from the existing pre‑engineered metal building. Match the 23‑foot height and approximately 42‑foot width of the existing building (back to front).
2.
Place the addition relative to the existing building and set the finish floor.
3.
Re‑route the existing sanitary sewer to prevent it from ending up under the new building. Raise the rim of the existing manhole. Run a new 4‑inch water connection from a main south of the building to the addition. Storm water will be collected by nearby catch basins. Remove a portion of an existing underground steam line as indicated on the Drawings. Cap and abandon‑in‑place the portion that is to remain.
4.
Provide grading and hydro‑mulching/seeding as indicated on the Drawings. Provide a new front drive apron to accommodate a new overhead coiling door. Install a new sidewalk from the existing personnel door to the new personnel door on the front of the building.
5.
The depth of the foundations for the addition shall match the depth of the existing foundations (spread footings at columns with grade beams in between). Footing design has been based on a maximum allowable soil bearing pressure of 3000 PSF. Extend the exterior wall foundations vertically to provide a 6‑inch high curb to prevent spilled liquids from penetrating the perimeter. Where new foundations abut the existing foundations, connect the two with adhesive dowels and a bonding agent.
6.
Provide a steel moment frame to serve as the lateral load‑resisting system for the addition. Span between metal framing members with steel joists and cover with structural standing‑seam sheet‑metal roofing.
7.
The structure shall satisfy the following minimum dead and live loads per the 2007 Ohio Building Code (OBC) based on the 2006 International Building Code (IBC):
Dead Actual material weight Roof Snow
20 PSF

8.
Match the existing building’s exterior profile and color. Provide face brick backed‑up by concrete unit masonry at the base of the wall around the perimeter of the addition. Use a metal wall panel system on the reminder of the wall. Construct the soffits and fascia of metal to match both the profile and the color of the existing building. Install new gutters and downspouts. Terminate downspouts above grade to match the existing building. Remove and relocate an existing exhaust fan located on the common wall between the addition and the existing building and patch the existing wall accordingly. Provide an expansion joint in the wall and roof construction at the interface between the addition and the existing building to allow for the movement of the existing building. Add new pre‑fabricated canopies at both new and the existing personnel doors.
9.
Insulate the addition to match the current building. Provide exposed scrim‑faced insulation on the inside face of the metal panel walls and the underside of the sheet‑metal roofing, to provide a minimum R‑19 for the walls and R‑33 for the roof. Use polystyrene inserts at the low concrete unit masonry wall at the perimeter to insulate this area of the wall.
10.
Add a new personnel door to the front of the building. Cut a new personnel door into the existing building to allow direct interior access to the addition. Note that due to the location of existing equipment, the clearances around this connecting door are very tight and will not meet ADA requirements. Provide a new ten‑foot square motor‑operated coiling door in the exterior wall for forklift access to the storage area.
11.
Provide interior finishes in the addition to match the existing building. Leave the scrim face of the glass‑fiber insulation exposed.
