About this file
This is a Drilling Log and Standard Penetration Test (SPT) report documenting subsurface soil conditions at Misawa Air Base, Japan for the Renovate Squadron Operations Building 3267 project. The boring (Hole B-1) was drilled to a total depth of 21.31 meters below ground surface between December 16-17, 2024, using a GeoProbe 66DT drill rig with a 66mm diameter single core tube bit and split spoon sampler. The drilling was conducted by ESC Pacific with drillers Kamoshida, Takashi and Yonaha, Noboru.
The subsurface profile reveals multiple distinct soil layers from surface to boring termination. The upper 2.0 meters consists of fill material (dark gray clay with organic material, coarse sand, and angular gravel). Below this lies a clayey sand layer (SC classification) extending to approximately 6.5 meters with medium dense to loose density. A gravel layer with high water content is present from 6.5 to 7.5 meters, followed by silty sand (SM) and elastic silt (MH) layers with medium to dense consistency between 7.5 and 14.5 meters depth. The boring terminates in consolidated silt and fine sand layers exhibiting very dense conditions. The groundwater elevation was measured at 25.23 meters (7.50 meters below ground level). Standard penetration test values are recorded throughout, with blow counts ranging from 4 to 50 per 15 centimeters, indicating increasing soil density with depth. Geophysical tests (PT) were conducted at multiple intervals to characterize soil properties.
