About this file

This is a specification section for construction submittal requirements issued by Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FFDG) in June 2025. The document establishes general methods and procedures for subcontractor submittals related to project work, including shop drawings, material samples, and operations and maintenance manuals.

Subcontractors must submit shop drawings and schedules for all materials and assemblies normally required in construction, along with six copies of operations and maintenance manuals or PDF versions prior to final project acceptance. All submittals require completion of the "Submittal for Review Transmittal" form (Attachment A). Shop drawings must include the subcontractor's signed stamp confirming dimensional accuracy and coordination with other trades' work, submitted by the approved schedule in logical order. Complete assembly, structure, or system drawings cannot be submitted until all related component drawings are finished to enable cross-checked review. Subcontractors must maintain marked-up as-built prints at the job site showing daily installation records in red, with copies provided to FFDG within 24 hours upon request. Final project acceptance is contingent on receipt and approval of complete as-built prints.

FFDG will review submittals and return one copy within 10 working days with one of five possible responses: "No Exception Taken" (NET) allowing immediate procurement and installation; "Revise & Resubmit – Fabrication May Proceed" (R/R) allowing fabrication but not installation until approval; "Make Corrections & Proceed" (MCP) allowing full procurement and installation; "Rejected" (R) requiring resubmission with stated reasons before any work; or "For Information Only" (FIO) acknowledging receipt of test results, calculations, and reports. Material substitutions follow the same submittal procedure but must include comparative information against specified products, explain differences, indicate required drawing changes, and bear no cost to FFDG if alterations or engineering design changes are necessary.
