About this file
This document is a Painting and Coating specification (Section 09 90 00) prepared for a specific construction project, potentially associated with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's Clackamas Complex Building 15 painting project. The specification provides detailed requirements for surface preparation, painting, and coating of interior and exterior surfaces, including comprehensive guidelines for materials, environmental conditions, product delivery, and installation procedures. It specifies acceptable paint manufacturers like Sherwin-Williams, Rhodda, and Miller, and outlines precise technical requirements for different surface types including drywall, wood, fiber cement siding, and metal surfaces, with specific instructions for primer and finish coat applications.
The specification mandates strict quality assurance protocols, including compliance with governing codes, use of experienced installers, and adherence to manufacturer instructions. Technical requirements include minimum ambient air temperature of 40 degrees F during application, surface preparation protocols such as scraping and sanding existing wood surfaces, and maintenance of specific Minimum Dry Film Thickness (MDF) standards. The document emphasizes that color and pattern selection will be determined by the Owner's Authorized Representative, and requires contractors to provide painting mock-ups, submit detailed product data, and ensure that all unpainted items penetrating roofs or exterior walls are painted to match the background color unless otherwise directed.
