About this file
This is a design specification document for fire protection systems at a Hydrazine Fuel Storage and Servicing Facility. The document outlines comprehensive fire protection requirements across multiple building systems and references applicable federal and industry standards including UFC 3-600-01, NFPA codes, and DoD specifications.
The facility requires an automatic wet pipe sprinkler suppression system designed per UFC 3-600-01 and NFPA 13, with a Double Check valve assembly or Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow Preventer. The system must accommodate multiple occupancy classifications: Light Hazard (Office and Restroom) at 0.1 gpm/sf, Ordinary Hazard (Mechanical and Electrical Rooms) at 0.2 gpm/sf, Extra Hazard Group 2 (Service Area) at 0.4 gpm/sf, and Storage (Class II Liquid) at 0.45 gpm/sf. The total building sprinkler area is 863 square feet with an estimated fire water flow rate of 320 gpm plus 500 gpm for fire hose allowance. A 6-foot fire water connection will be provided at the Fire Riser room, sourced from site water distribution. A fire alarm and mass notification system must be integrated with the sprinkler system, featuring addressable circuits, radio transceiver connectivity to the base fire department, audio/visual signals (75 dB minimum with dual strobes for fire and mass notification), and battery backup power. The Fire Alarm & Mass Notification panel will be located in the Electrical Room. Additional fire protection elements include fire hydrants connected to site water distribution and duct smoke detectors at air handling units providing full alarm activation per NFPA 90A.
