About this file
This document is the 81st Communications Squadron Premise Wiring Guidance, Revision G (August 2023), which serves as supplemental technical guidance for Local Area Network cabling installations at Keesler Air Force Base.
The guidance mandates that all premise wiring installations conform to TIA/EIA commercial standards and requires coordination with the 81 CS/SCXP Plans and Programs Office prior to implementation. Contractors must employ at least one BICSI-certified technician and deliver as-built drawings, test results, and restore work areas upon completion. All copper cabling must be Category 6 rated and compatible with Panduit Mini-Com UTP RJ45 TG Jack Modules, with specific color coding applied: purple for cameras, gray for public address systems, red for secure communications, blue for data/voice, yellow for Keesler Technical Training Environment, and pink for AWAKEN systems (excluding SCIFs). Terminations must follow 568B standards with pairs untwisted no more than 0.5 inches and cable jacket stripped back no more than 1 inch. Cable management requires metal cable trays in communication rooms, independent ceiling support at intervals no greater than 60 inches apart, avoidance of fluorescent ballasts and electrical cables, and use of Velcro or nylon ties rather than staples. Labeling must be machine-generated, uppercase, sans-serif, and coordinated with 81 CS/SCXP. Power requirements vary by switch type: Cisco 9600/9400 switches require two NEMA Locking L6-30 female plugs, while Cisco 9200/9300 switches require four NEMA 5-20R outlets. The 81 CS/SCQ quality assurance office serves as the approving authority for all work.
