SECTION 221429 - SUMP PUMPS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SECTION REQUIREMENTS

A. Submittals:

1. Product Data: For each type of product indicated.

a. Include rated capacities, operating characteristics, electrical characteristics, furnished specialties, accessories, and motor horsepower,.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application.

B. Comply with UL 778 for motor-operated water pumps.

2.2 SUMP PUMPS

A. Submersible Sump Pumps: Factory-assembled and -tested, end-suction, centrifugal sump pumps as defined in HI 1.1-1.2 and HI 1, for automatic operation; with 72-inch- minimum power cord and plug.

1. Basis-of-Design Product: Product indicated on Drawings or a comparable product of one of the following:

a. Barnes; Crane Pumps & Systems.

b. Bell & Gossett Domestic Pump; ITT Corporation.

c. Flo Fab inc.

d. Glentronics, Inc.

e. Goulds Pumps; ITT Corporation.

f. Grundfos Pumps Corp.

g. Liberty Pumps.

h. Little Giant Pump Co.

i. McDonald, A. Y. Mfg. Co.

j. Pentair Pump Group; Hydromatic Pumps.

3. Pump and Motor Shaft: Steel, with factory-sealed, grease-lubricated ball bearings and double-mechanical seals.

4. Motor: Hermetically sealed, capacitor-start type, with built-in overload protection; three-conductor waterproof power cable of length required, and with grounding plug and cable-sealing assembly.

5. Pump Discharge Piping: Factory- or field-fabricated, ASTM A 53/A 53M, Schedule 40 galvanized-steel pipe.

6. Oil Probe: Self cleaning, hermetically sealed stainless steel oil detection probe.

7. Controls: Direct plug-in activation of entire pump and control system from the main control panel. Alarms, lights, silence switch, and remote monitoring circuit for oil, high liquid, and high amperage conditions

2.3 SUMP-PUMP BASINS AND BASIN COVERS

A. Basins: Concrete, watertight, rectangular, basin sump with top flange and sidewall openings for pipe connections.

B. Basin Covers: Fabricate metal cover with openings having gaskets, seals, and bushings; for access to pumps, pump shafts, control rods, discharge piping, vent connections, and power cables.

2.4 MOTORS

A. Comply with NEMA designation, temperature rating, service factor, enclosure type, and efficiency requirements per AHSRAE 90.1.

1. Motor Sizes: Minimum size as indicated. If not indicated, large enough so driven load will not require motor to operate in service factor range above 1.0.

2. Less Than 1/2 HP: Built-in thermal-overload protection.

3. 1/2 to 3 HP: Permanently lubricated ball bearings.

4. 5 HP and Larger: Grease-lubricated ball bearings.

5. Motor shall be non-overloading within full range of pump performance.

6. Electrical: 115V, Single Phase, see drawings.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

A. Install sewage pumps according to applicable requirements and manufacturers recommendations.

B. Install pumps with access for periodic maintenance, including removal of motors, impellers, couplings, and accessories.

C. Support pumps and piping so weight of piping is not supported by pump volute.

D. Install electrical connections for power, controls, and devices.

E. Submersible Sewage Pumps: Set pumps on basin floor. Make connections to sanitary drainage piping.

Amendment 002

1. Anchor guide-rail supports to basin or pit bottom and sidewall or cover.

F. Submersible Sump Pumps: Set pumps on basin, pit, or sump floor. Make connections to storm drainage piping.

G. Packaged Drainage Pump Units: Install and make connections to storm drainage piping.

H. Install swing check valve and gate or ball valve on each sewage pump discharge. Include spring-loaded or weighted-lever check valves for piping NPS 2-1/2 and larger.

I. Install swing check valve and gate or ball valve on each sump pump discharge. Include spring-loaded or weighted-lever check valves for piping NPS 2-1/2 and larger.

J. Install swing check valve and gate or ball valve on each automatic, packaged pump discharge.
