(58) FIELD OF CLASSIFICATION SEARCH
The information in this bulletin will be included in the 2020 revision of
DATA ENTRY MANUAL FOR UTILITY PATENTS.

17. Field of Classification Search, Data Source.
The information under searches of CPC combination sets published in Grant Red Book only is superseded by what is shown below.

In accordance with changes made to the Grant Red Book DTD on May 16, 2013, the Grant Red Book <us-field-of-classification-search> will publish information from the revised SRFW form’s CPC COMBINATION SETS – SEARCHED section. The Field of Classification Search information on the Grant Yellow Book/PostScript® front page will not publish information from the revised SRFW form’s CPC COMBINATION SETS – SEARCHED section. However, when there are no CPC searches and no U.S. classification searches and the only searches are CPC combination set searches, the Grant Yellow Book/PostScript® front page will show the statement “CPC combination set(s) only.”
17. Field of Classification Search, Data Source.
The information under The PaDaCap contractor will do the following:
The PaDaCap contractor will do the following:
- GRANT YELLOW. Print a (58) Field of Classification Search section in Grant Yellow Book/PostScript®. The (58) Field of Classification Search section will show classification searches only (that is, no limited searches will be shown) or will show the word “None” or will (when the only searches are CPC combination set searches) show the statement “CPC combination set(s) only.” Each (58) Field of Classification Search section will include the statement “See application file for complete search history.” See Data Source, Verification and Capture, and Composition.
- GRANT RED. Publish the <us-field-of-classification-search> in Grant Red Book. The <us-field-of-classification-search> will show classification searches only (that is, no limited searches) or will show the word “None” or will show <classification-cpc-combination-text> only. See Data Source, Verification and Capture, and Grant Red Book.*
* The USPTO’s Grant Red Book style sheets show the heading Field of Classification Search and show the statement “See application file for complete search history.”

The information beginning
(2) The PaDaCap contractor will capture the word “None”
(2) The PaDaCap contractor will capture the word “None” for Grant Yellow Book/PostScript® and Grant Red Book as described below, or will capture the statement “CPC combination set(s) only.” for Grant Yellow Book/PostScript® as described below.
“None.” When the data source is the revised SRFW form, the field of classification search for both Grant Yellow Book/PostScript® and Grant Red Book will say “None” in the following circumstances:
· The SEARCH NOTES section shows search(es). NOTE: When no search is indicated in the SEARCH NOTES section, see RUSH guidelines for field of classification search.
· The following sections are all blank, or contain the word “None” or the like, or contain a horizontal line or other mark indicating that no search was recorded, or contain entries all of which are of the kinds described in (5) below, or contain entries none of which are of the kinds described in (1) above:

· The CPC COMBINATION SETS – SEARCHED section shows searches.
· The following two sections are blank, or contain the word “None” or the like, or contain a horizontal line or other mark indicating that no search was recorded, or contain entries all of which are of the kinds described in (5) below, or contain entries none of which are of the kinds described in (1) above:

NOTE: When the statement “CPC combination set(s) only.” is printed in Grant Yellow Book/PostScript®, Grant Red Book will show the CPC combination set(s).
“None.” When the data source is the older SRFW form, the field of classification search for both Grant Yellow Book/PostScript® and Grant Red Book will say “None” in the following circumstances:
· The SEARCH NOTES section shows one or more searches. NOTE: When no search is indicated in the SEARCH NOTES section, see RUSH guidelines for field of classification search.
· The SEARCHED section is blank, or contains the word “None” or the like, or contains a horizontal line or other mark indicating that no search was recorded, or contains entries all of which are of the kinds described in (5) below, or contains entries none of which are of the kinds described in (1) above.
17. Field of Classification Search, Composition.
The following printing guidelines are added immediately after the printing guidelines for the word None.
If the only searches are CPC combination set searches, the statement CPC combination set(s) only. will be printed as shown in the mockup below:
