About this file
This document is a specification for inventory tags used to identify equipment located in Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) facilities. Items requiring maintenance and repair must be identified with pre-numbered, self-adhesive vinyl/PVC foil laser-printable tags, specifically Avery Zweckform L7912-10 or equivalent. The tags shall be water resistant or waterproof, oil resistant, fade-resistant, and optionally laminated or UV resistant with a blue background and white lettering.
Each tag must contain a three-letter facility short code (per Appendix 1) followed by six numbers, with text and letters comprising at least 50 percent of the overall label size unless a barcode or QR code is included, in which case the text must not be smaller than 30 percent. The tags shall not contain contractor names, logos, or contact information. Tags measuring approximately 2.75 inches by 1 inch must be permanently affixed to equipment in visible locations without moving the equipment, preferably placed adjacent to existing DeCA barcode labels and data plates. For refrigeration cases and items in sales areas, tags shall be affixed inside the case or on non-visible sides. Existing vinyl tags in readable and present condition shall not be replaced at contract start; replacement is only required for unreadable or missing tags.
