About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for the Space Weather Observations at L1 to Advance Readiness Project (SOLAR) X-Ray Irradiance Sensor (XRIS) acquisition.
The document provides clarifications on two technical requirements from the XRIS specification. Regarding pointing requirements, Answer 2 clarifies that if the spacecraft provides pointing knowledge of +/- 0.1 degrees (6 arcminutes) but the sensor must achieve flare location accuracy of <= 5 arcminutes, the provider should assume responsibility for supplying their own pointing knowledge to meet the tighter tolerance. Regarding software requirements, Answer 3 states that Section 4.8.2 flight software requirements do not apply to FPGA implementations that contain no embedded software core within the FPGA fabric; firmware alone would not be considered software under Section 4.8 of the XRIS requirements specification. The document notes that in the event of any discrepancy between these Q&A responses and the Final Request for Proposal provisions and contract terms, the RFP and contract terms will take precedence.

Questions and Answers
Below are questions related to the Space weather Observations at L1 to Advance Readiness Project (SOLAR) X-Ray Irradiance Sensor (XRIS) acquisition. In the event of any discrepancy, the Final Request for Proposal provisions and contract terms will take precedence.
Question 2:
Pointing - Section 5.3 in SPEC Attachment B:
If the provided pointing knowledge is +/- 0.1 deg (6 arcmin) but we need to provide flare location of <= 5 arcmin, should we assume that we need to provide our own pointing knowledge?
Answer 2:
Yes, the provider should assume they need to provide their own pointing knowledge.
Question 3:
Software - Section 4.8.2 in SPEC Attachment B:
If we do not have flight software since we are only planning to use an FPGA, does this requirement apply and how should we answer it in the requirements compliance matrix? Is this applicable to firmware?
Answer 3:
If the FPGA has no embedded software core in the FPGA fabric, then it would not be treated as software as articulated in Section 4.8 Flight Software of the XRIS requirements specification.
