About this file
This is a specification section (101423 – SIGNAGE) from a federal construction solicitation for New Office Building 401 (Solicitation No. 70FA5020R00000013), issued for construction in June 2020. The section establishes comprehensive requirements for signage materials, fabrication, and installation throughout the building project.
The signage scope includes panel signs, illuminating panel signs, room-identification signs, field-applied vinyl-character signs, changeable-letter directories, metal plaques at the building exterior, and cut dimensional letters at the building exterior. All signage must comply with MWEOC standards and be equal to or better than Creative Signage Systems Type D1A/F/W specifications. Signs must incorporate accessibility features complying with ADA 2010 and UFAS standards, including dual signage for visually handicapped persons, Braille signage for stairways, elevators, and toilet rooms, and self-illuminating signs at emergency locations. The specification requires submittal of product data, sustainable design documentation (including VOC content for adhesives at 70 g/L or less), shop drawings showing fabrication and installation details, and full-size samples for verification. Contractor must employ manufacturer-trained and approved installers. The manufacturer provides a five-year special warranty from Substantial Completion covering finish deterioration beyond normal weathering, embedded graphic image deterioration, and delamination of sheet materials. Installation requirements specify level and plumb placement, concealed fasteners where possible, proper substrate preparation, and various mounting methods including concealed studs, projecting studs, through fasteners, brackets, adhesives, and magnetic tape. All exposed surfaces of exterior aluminum must receive bituminous paint coating where in contact with dissimilar materials, and sign surfaces must remain clean and damage-free throughout construction until owner acceptance.
