Preliminary Plans letter

Please provide all requests for weed inspection of sources to Michael Traffalis of the Federal Highway Administration by September, 20th, 2019. They will arrange for a weed inspection to be completed by approximately October 18, 2019. To schedule your inspection, contact Michael Traffalis 360-619-7787 michael.traffalis@dot.gov.

The following are some known commercial sources that have passed the Glacier Park’s weed inspection, with stipulations (NOTE: The contractor is responsible for the contract quantity and quality requirements):

The Government researched in Spring 2019 potential material sources in the project vicinity, contacted the material source owners that responded to a request for information, conducted weed surveys, and reported the results back to the material source owners. As of Spring 2019, Six material sources on the west side of Glacier National Park were certified weed free for sand and gravel, and three were certified weed free for topsoil. Two material sources on the east side of the Park were certified weed free for sand and gravel, and none for topsoil. All materials sources will need to be continuously inspected and approved for use year by year.

• The Six pits approved for 2019 on west side are Spoklies, Schellinger( 3 different pits), Laselle and Nelcon White Rock for sand and gravel.

• There are 3 approved topsoil sourced on the westside – Creston, Black Gold and JT.

• There are two pits on the Eastside approved in 2019 sand and gravel, the Kingsburt Colony and

Schellinger Pit.

Weed management at contractor-located sources is the sole responsibility of the Contractor.

Solicitation documents - Documents will be available during the winter of 2019/2020. Please monitor the FedBizOpps (FBO) site for actual date of solicitation release (www.fbo.gov).
