Mechanical and Plumbing Specifications
This document is a mechanical and plumbing specifications sheet for toilet room renovations at APG Building 45M, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, prepared by the Directorate of Installation Operations Engineering & Construction Division. The specifications establish technical requirements for domestic water systems, sanitary waste systems, and mechanical installations.
The domestic water specifications require all piping to be ASTM D6A Type L copper or approved equal, with water pressure maintained between 40-80 PSI. The system must include backflow prevention devices, a domestic water pump, and water heater with 40-gallon capacity and appropriate insulation. All ductwork must be designed, constructed, and installed per SMACNA standards with clear coordination of all penetrations. Ductwork sizes range from 12" to 32" in diameter. Sanitary waste specifications mandate PVC piping with proper slope (1/4 inch per foot), horizontal drainage piping at 6 inches of slope per 100 feet, and cleanouts at appropriate intervals. The contractor is responsible for coordinating all work with other trades to minimize interferences. All ductwork must be routed over structural members where possible, and ductwork supports must be installed at intervals no greater than 10 feet. Equipment and piping must be securely attached, with all installations performed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and local plumbing inspector requirements. All ducts must be tested for leakage prior to delivery and final installation.
