About this file
This document is Amendment No. 5 to Request for Proposal (RFP) No. 438478 for HSR BPM Cryo-Cable Assemblies, which will be procured by the Department of Energy Office of Science for installation in the Hadron Storage Ring of the Electron-Ion Collider.
The amendment incorporates Attachment A, which provides clarification on the insertion loss specification. The insertion loss requirement applies to sets of 4 cables, rather than the entire lot of over 1,000 cables. The insertion loss variation across the frequency range must be no more than 0.05 dB for each set of 4 cables. If this specification cannot be met, the contractor should indicate what can be achieved, which will be evaluated for acceptability. All other terms and conditions of the RFP remain unchanged.

Attachment A
Clarification Questions and Answers
Dated June 25, 2024
1. In regards to the insertion loss, is the requirement that the entire lot of 1,000+ cables the insertion loss cannot vary more than ±0.05 dB in the entire frequency range? Or does this only apply to the peak value?
For example, if the former is to be true then the insertion loss of all cables would need to be between the red lines where the blue line represents the nominal insertion loss (this corresponds to the insertion loss of 0.142” cable with a length of ~54”).
Answer:
The motivation for the insertion loss spec is that when a set of 4 cables are installed, these four have the specified insertion loss matching. Sets are defined in Table 1 the drawing, as set is 2, 4, 8, 10 in the Marking Text column. There are two variations of sets of 4 (Cable Dash number 01, 02, 03, 04, and 02, 03, 05, 06). The insertion loss requirement can be for a subset of the 1,000+ cables, for example it can be for a delivery lot of ~ 150 cables. If the insertion loss variation specification of ±0.05 dB over the frequency range cannot be met, indicate what can be achieved, this will be evaluated to determine if it is acceptable.
